or would Microsoft not allow the older games on here?
how would we know? and GOG don't discuss contractual and licensing matters in public.

but yeah, chances are Microsoft just isn't interested in re-releasing their old games. what about their old "Madness" series of racing games? Motocross, Monster Truck and Midtown? Microsoft has plenty of good old games, but they'd rather want you to pay for their new ones (AoE Online... yikes!).

good thing that Age of Empires and Age of Mythology still aren't out of print. you can still easily find affordable copies of the AoE complete collection and of AoM Gold.

Following up on Fred's wise words there:

You can buy Age of Empires 1 and 2 Collector's Edition for the meagre price of a fiver in the UK. I have the equivalent version here in Germany and it is completely DRM-free. Not so much as a disc check.

exactly! the edition i bought earlier this year came in just a jewel case, though, but i think it's the same edition content-wise. both games, both expansions, fully patched, DRM-free, multilingual (unlike the original release) und including the soundtrack (at least some of it).

paid a bit more since i bought it locally, but it was still a good deal.

also bought AoM Gold and Rise of Nations Gold in similar UbiSoft eXclusive editions from a UK EBay seller.
Microsoft employee on Steam said that MS has no interest in supporting AOE1 , AOE2 or Age of Mythology.

I'd treat them as abandonware if I were you, cause they seriosly don't give a fuck.

for example.

Stores are selling only their old stock. These games are not being reproduced, they are not supported, and MS doesn't have any plans of re-releasing them. As they don't give a shit about PC gaming anymore.

I'd like to see Zoo Tycon Gold here by the way

as long as the game is legally available at normal prices, you ought to damn well pay for it!

you are not entitled to a digital edition.

Microsoft hasn't re-released any of their older games expect AoE 3 on Steam. it was UbiSoft that has released several editions of AoE 1 & 2 as well as AoM over the years. and the games are far from unavailable so don't act like you have to steal them in order to get them.

Like I give a damn.

I bought it for like 3 bucks, but I wouldn't feel any remorse by pirating it.

You don't get the fact I don't pirate games only because I don't want to, not because it's illegal.

If I went to the store and didn't find any copies of AOE2 in any store nearby - I would download it without blinking of an eye. By the way, stores are selling only the copies that are left. It's not OFFICIALY distributed anymore, and this is what my previous post was about.

Oh noes! So MS will not fix the highly irritating save game corruption bug in AOE1?

In which version? It didn't happen for me even once, and I play AOE1 from time to time since it was released.

hell of an attitude. why are you on GOG in the first place, then? just consider all those old games abandonware and download them for free. if you don't mind pirating one game, why care about the rest?

fact is the AoE games ARE NOT out of circulation. your games store around the corner isn't the only one in the world.

Fred_DM: snip
First - learn how to read.

I buy games on GOG because I WANT TO.

What I'm saying - if you live in a place where AOE2 isn't easily avaible - just download it. Microsoft doesn't support it anymore, so they shouldn't give a damn, too. They won't get a single penny from most copies sold in stores anyway, because agreements between distributors and MS already expired.

I consider game abandonware not when it's not avaible on ebay, but when the producer admits they don't support it and they are not interested in selling it again.

so there is only one game store in all of Poland? ever heard of online shops like Amazon or Bol? and then you can still look around on Ebay and find plenty of AoE copies from legit, professional sellers.

but i get it: you're looking for a lazy excuse to pirate games. you know, i'd agree with you if the game in question WASN'T still widely available. Eye of the Beholder? abandonware. The Need for Speed? pirate away. but the AoE games ARE widely available still.

Again: neither MS nor Ensemble studios (hehe) won't see a penny from those sales anyway. It's no different for them if you pirate it or not.

Age of empires 1 and 2 were distributed here in Cenega. Cenega wanted to renew their agreement with MS but MS refused. So every single copy sold today = no profit for MS.

I don't give a flying duck about your opinion about me. I've got around 500+ games that I bought in retail and digitally.

If you don't pirate games just because it's illegal - I lol.

PPS. Learn how to read agin: I bought both AOE1+2 collection and AOM in retail stores. Because I wanted to.
