Good idea. Make part of GOG to eventually evolve to become like Nexus.

Kurina: For example, GOG could display certain high rated mods from the Nexus site and help people more easily find things that way, and Nexus could focus their attention on driving traffic to GOG as well. I think at this point and time for GOG, it would be a more sensible route and maybe bolster both communities.
I kind of like this idea. GOG already advertises on places like MobyGames, ScummVM, nGlide, etc., so I think Nexus could possibly be another one too.
Gog.com already supports modding. They do a modding spotlight sometimes.
I think GOG should best leave mods be their own thing, personally. I know some of the game subforums have stickied link threads for notable ones which is good enough.
I don't think GOG should diversify to another discipline.
GOG should stick to what it does best: unbundling games.
I was thinking that might be a neat idea as well, but it also sounds like hosting the mod would or could be a headache since they would potentially need to keep track of updates and whatnot. Not to mention, other than being nice, there really isn't anything in it for them monetarily.

I think just posting a link in the particular games forum would be enough. Which I believe is already done for some games. If anything, possibly have a sticky thread for mods in the games forum and have a link to it in the games download area.
I think the modding would be a nice addition to the galaxy client
gog buy nexus !!! :)))

Kurina: I could see a partnership of sorts being in order though. For example, GOG could display certain high rated mods from the Nexus site and help people more easily find things that way, and Nexus could focus their attention on driving traffic to GOG as well. I agree with this^

Vendayn: Add a mod section to the website.

Allow people to put up mods for games (a lot of games on here have mods, and at the very least, most have unofficial patches)

Add a donation button to each mod

Everyone wins :)
I agree that would be a good way to differentiate from Steam, and if GOG doesn't want to go that far, I hope they at least start to post and promote more Mod Spotlight articles.

This 100%
Capital! I want that too! Perfect season for lower than belt hits at effing steam! Yarr!

J_Darnley: GOG already does. Games sold here support mods. There does not need to be a repository of mods here. Plenty of places for mods for games sold by here: ModDB, Nexus, various game-specific sites.

Discuss mods for games in the forums here if you want. It would make the game-specific forums here more active and interesting.

Modders that want money probably already have a system for receiving it.

Kurina: I would be afraid of GOG adding in mod sections just because I want the service to stay really focused on what it is currently doing. I feel like Steam is constantly stretching itself out to do more than they can handle, which is apparent by how many projects they keep starting without fixing any issues with older stuff, like their own client.

I could see a partnership of sorts being in order though. For example, GOG could display certain high rated mods from the Nexus site and help people more easily find things that way, and Nexus could focus their attention on driving traffic to GOG as well. Just my thoughts anyway :)
You know that's pretty true. While I would like to see Galaxy handle this like Steam, really all GOG needs to do is form a partnership with Nexus to make modding on GOG really take off. It can be rather simple, Nexus agrees to support more GOG games on there Nexus Mod Manager and set up mod sections for the most popular modable games on GOG. In return GOG puts a Nexus banner and at the bottom of the site getting them more businesses and promotes them as a partner of GOG. Could even provide a small part of the sales of supported games (like 1 or 2%).

Lets make this happen. A Nexus / GOG partnership would be a quick and easy way to go...

Am I the only one disturbed with this idea?

If I didn't like to see mods in Steam Workshop, I wouldn't like to see mods (free or not) on GOG, or whatever store.

I strongly believe that mods should be in a neutral place, where, at least we can hope, those mods wouldn't be specific or exclusive to a store, preventing other gamers to use them because of somewhat partnership or zealous behaviour.

Tutorials or what GOG did about Planescape: Torment modding is the right thing to do.

But mods on GOG? I would be ashamed to see that.

Disclaimer: This is my personal opinion and not of GOG.com as a whole.

I am personally a big fan of the Mod Spotlights. Why? It keeps the mod on the site it originated from, the original mod site gets some hits and if they use ads it supports the server costs, and by linking to the actual site there is no question as to the origin of the mod(s).

I, personally speaking again, would not want to us to get more involved in the mod scene as that should, in my own personal opinion, remain vendor neutral but maybe that's just me being someone who was gaming since the early 90s so what do I know? :)

I can see that and even agree with it. But sadly that just isn't realistic anymore, if were going to preserve modding from becoming a cash grab after recent developments, GOG would be better to get involved and try to do it right or partner with someone who is (like the Nexus) and get them some support.

My biggest problem with linking the often not very well supported sites to grab these old mods for old games is it is hard to keep track of... I started to mod System Shock 2 and I then I said hell with it because it was to much trouble trying to keep up with all the mods some of which were still getting updates, so you had to manually update to get the latest version. So here I was bookmarking all these mods, that I had to manually go through just to check for an update. It was a pain.

GOG or Nexus can easy help in this area...
