PookaMustard: That's when letting the people report the spammers that get past the system is the whole big deal. That is when people report the offenders that mods can actually do their best as their cases are best specified, even if you're not paying for more mods to begin with.

People sometimes don't like to search. They sometimes want the source of information already in their very hands.
1) Uh, yeah, true as far it goes, if I'm following you. But it would require more changes to their website design which might cost more than hiring more mods.

2) Of course, but not everyone follows a link either. Whether out of laziness or concerns about viruses, etc., or because you've already clicked 50 of Krypsyn's links in forum mafia and have no idea what his point is. (j/k)

So what you're really talking about is a lower rate of uptake. But in terms of your "right to speech" as it were, in both cases you have had the opportunity to speak, and just as now you'll have some people who engage seriously and others who don't.

1) Then what would be the preferred end solution to both not costing GOG much to change their website versus ditching rep as the way of gaining abilities on a system level and gaining access to specific giveaways on a community level? Personally, I see that ditching the rep system for that is enough. Then adding in a 'report this user' function in which it does exactly the same thing. Just programming a few codes so that when button X is clicked, open a form, and when the form is sent, send it to the staff to-do's. The rest is just the staff figuring out the whole idea.

2) But at least with a link, I provided the users the exact article I'm referring to, the exact reference, the exact everything. Whether they not click it or not is not of my concern, my concern here is for those who want to follow me to the link, who absolutely wish to see the content I'm referencing, and its better to save time and effort for them.

Yes, in either case, the workarounds might work, however, the convenience of adding a link is just miles superior. It is not really okay to let the people who can downvote or upvote who they want based on whatever factors they have to take away my privilege of presenting what I want to reference or say in the most complete form possible. As I have said, its affecting me in a giveaway's thread OP that I started.

PookaMustard:
Far as I remember you can still post links - just not hyperlinks.

Tee hee!
Clearly GOG's new Wanker Detector has gone live.

Well, since I can't solve the structural problems with GoG's website and staffing, how's about I give you an upvote?

FWIW, I don't remember what my original point was (just had a significantly important RL meeting, so did a brainwipe of extraneous concerns going in), since it's not really that I disagree with you that their system is a mess.

I was probably just cynically noting that a) I wouldn't hold my breath about anything being done, and b) "simple" solutions here like "get more mods" don't really work because you'd still need to make changes to the underlying site to make the forum mechanics work with mods, at which point you might as well just reimagine the whole thing rather than patch it.

I appreciate your upvotes. Thanks.

Your original point was that GOG's structures is a bit of a doozy to reimagine in a way that works to both prevent spambots from over running the place and between allowing legit humans do what they want. However, with the rep (karma) system being given all the attention as the spambot filter and such, this means I could be a human (have their abilities) this morning, and a spambot (have nothing) this night, then again a human the next day, then a spambot the next night and so forth, just depending on how people like my opinions to begin with. This system is indeed very much a mess, and it has the potential to scare off people from controversial subjects (the one that did me in being censorship) because then they would lose the rep they got to enter giveaways and use links and such.

Very much a reimaging is needed. Since I don't know how long it takes GOG to change entire old structures to new ones, I think I can be patient on this one. Maybe they'll change the system down the lane. Maybe.

I can relate to that - there are certain threads I have lurked in and thought "no way in heck am I posting here!" even when I might have had something to add.

And yes, we can <hope> that they'll change to a better system down the road, because heaven knows this one has some significant flaws.

JudasIscariot: This is related to the low amount of rep as it prevents spambots (not calling you one, btw :) ) from posting their garbage on the forum with only 1 rep. Once you get to around 20 rep you'll be able to post links.
Thanks a lot. I wanted to post a link to help solving a problem but it didn't work. Now I know what's wrong with my account. :)

Thanks for reviving this. >_<

I only wanted to say thank you because I searched in the help for such an answer and didn't find anything to that "problem".

I meant the post you replied to.
It's probably been mentioned in other threads.
GOG's forum search function kinda sucks.

I wasn't trying to be mean, sorry if I gave you that impression.
Everything's fine... :)
I need see my rep go above 20 after I wake up next morning. Want to post links with game guide I created, help the community and shitz. Can't with this dogshit measure in place...

Thanks homies
