Quick question, planning on getting XvT on sale as, I saw that X-Wing Alliance needs a flight stick, and I currently do not have one. Does XvT need a flight stick as well? Or can it work with keyboard and mouse?

Yes it does require a joystick. From the game's page:

"IMPORTANT NOTICE: STAR WARS®: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter requires a controller or joystick."

Are you sure about that? I had this game in the past and I never had to use a joystick... But the store page is very confusing:

1) Minimum system requirements - Windows: Windows XP/Vista/7/8, 1.8 GHz Processor, 1 GB RAM, 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended), Mouse, Keyboard, Controller/Joystick

2) IMPORTANT NOTICE: Star Wars™: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter requires a controller or joystick.

So what's the right answer? o_O

It says in the requirements "Controller/joystick" It doesn't say recommended. I'm honestly not seeing what's confusing.

If you need one, I'd recommend the Logitech Extreme 3D pro. I've got one here and it's quite nice. The rotating stick is a little annoying in games that don't use it, but over all a nice one to have.
I've just found this thread on the LucasForums, and apparently, the DOS version (which I owned) is playable with mouse and keyboard, but the Windows 95 version requires a joystick.

You're right. I was first tricked by the "Mouse, Keyboard, Controller/Joystick" requirement. It gave me the impression that the game could either be played with a joystick or keyboard and mouse.

And now that I remember, I owned "Star Wars: X-Wing" and "Star Wars: TIE Fighter", two DOS games playable with keyboard and mouse. I've never had "X-Wing vs Tie Fighter"... Sorry for the misleading information!

This Wikipedia article confirms that the game is only playable with a joystick.
