Westerado: Double Barelled also has an unlockable playable female character. The game is (unfortunately) not yet on GOG, however.

Hope this helps.

Were you only asking about PC games, or also about console games? Red Dead Revolver had a playable female character for a few levels. You could also play as the same character in Red Dead Redemption's multiplayer with one of the DLC packs.

SamyMerchi: IMO, people don't have to justify what kind of games they play.
Absolutely. That doesn't mean we have to censor anyone that asks, though.

What I think is interesting -and revealing- is that questions only too frequently arise when it comes to gender (and perhaps also race). To follow your example, I'm sure nobody would've questioned why Thailand.

Back on topic: Dead Horizon is a short and free (well, pay-what-you-want, actually) point'n'click adventure featuring a dueling cowgirl.

Hirkis: Desperados : Wanted Dead or Alive, which is an excellent game, very fun to play.

drmike: I may be misunderstanding something here but when I read the descriptions for the game, it's a male lead with a female companion.
It's a team-based 'real-time tactics' game à la Commandos. The lead character is male, but he operates within a team of six people, two of whom are female (though one of the women doesn't appear until fairly late in the game). It's also a really good game - incredibly difficult, but also incredibly satisfying when you finally manage to complete one of the tougher missions.

227: I also think it's kind of pointless when people obsess over character gender like it matters, but you might have jumped the gun a bit with the outrage.
What outrage? I'm just asking for a reason. It's mild curiosity at the worst :P Where are you seeing outrage in that post?

Becasue I think the setting clearly makes a much greater difference. It will influence many aspects of the game, from aesthetics to available weapons and the game's overall mood.

Of course you don't have to justify anything. No need to get defensive. I wasn't attacking you. I was just asking for a reason, since I don't see one. Why, for example, pass up on a great western like Gun simply becasue of the protagonists gender? But if you don't want to answer, that's fine. I'm not trying be some kind of spanish inquisition.

If somebody wants to ask if there are any games set in Thailand, I don't feel the need to question whether it matters that the game is set in Thailand. I just answer the question if I have useful information to contribute.
I wish people would remember that before they give me shit for being a HuniePop freak.
And House Party.
And Big Brother.
And Summertime Saga.
And Sakura Dungeon.

Hard West is like a collection of interactive short stories, one of which focuses on a woman fleeing a corrupt inquisitor.

Fallout: New Vegas is not set in the Old West, but it works on the same principle. Frontier justice, industrialisation, cowboy hats. The protagonist is fully customizable.

This Land is My Land might be one to look out for in the future. It's going to be an open-world stealth action game from the perspective of a Native American. Not much else is known about it yet.

SamyMerchi: Hello,

does there exist any video game that has

1) Wild West setting and
2) playable female character?
Borderlands
Borderlands 2
Tales from the Borderlands

Space-western setting with playable female characters in each title :D

(This is assuming you aren't familiar with the series of course haha)
Surprised no one's mentioned it already, but Steamworld Dig 2 has a protagonist which is female.

It takes place in a futuristic wild-west setting.

I guess Steamworld Heist technically counts too, though the "western" veneer is very thin in that one.

True. It's not strict wild-west, it's more steampunk. Still half asleep here.

That's what it looked like to me when I read it. I was (and still am) assuming the poster was asking about games with female leads and wondered if you could switch genders and I was just missing it. I work for a webhosting company that caters to soccer moms and this question comes up quite often in various forms.

Thank you for the reply.

Now you've got me wondering whether it would be possible to get through the game using just the female characters (apart from the missions where they don't appear). I guess in theory it might, but in practice it would be almost impossible - plus you wouldn't be able to complete it, as the final mission has a section where you can only control the main character.

I would love to buy the game here. It looks very interesting.
