Telika: Now that's a very, very good article.
It actually is. It generally paints Linko in a sympathetic light (hence decreasing doxing attempts, something such an article could well renew) and gives him plenty of opportunity to explain himself, something he previously unfortunately just didn't have. But it doesn't take any of his claims of innocence at face value without double checking and pointing at facts that may put some of his claims in a dubious light.
Of course, Linko's claim that he had banned "far leftists and far rightists" on this forum is clearly false. It's an attempt at twosidesing what has been obvious to forumites for years, i.e. who the troublemakers actually are. The article's author of course could not fact check this bit. He can rest assured however, Linko didn't ban center left philantropists and social justice advocates from this forum. He banned reactionary shitheads, and he was apparently
quite content with and proud of the result.
As to the conjecture that we have been dealing with up to now, we now know that Linko has in fact been responsible for two faux pas tweets (not one, as many here have claimed, and not three, as I myself have assumed). We also now know that Linko himself thinks of the following GOG tweets as brazen corporate non-apologies in which he had no hand (the incessant defenders have claimed their royal butts off in here that those were "for all intents and purposes" apologies. GOG doesn't think so. Linko didn't. I don't see how anyone else should.).
And we now know that even though he claims to have made those tweets in blissful ignorance, Linko knew well that he'd fucked up, and attempted to apologize in actual earnest while some forumites told him he'd done nothing wrong. A position that the GOG suits apparently held just as well,
but still they fired him. Which, I'll say, is troubling to me as well.
I did err in one crucial thing, which is that I consistently argued that Linko was Social Media Manager first and Community Manager as a distant tenth position. Apparently GOG hired him to clean up the forum first and foremost, which he did, and did well. This does make me reconsider whether I'd want to have him fired or not. He fucked up on the bonus chore, not the main job, as I had assumed.
The actual topic of this thread, y'know, the secret one, is still not answered of course. The article's author pressures Linko to distance himself from the gamer hate movement, and Linko fundamentally fails to do so, which is of course disappointing. Still, some stuff I found on Discord shows him as much more of a Lefty – some scathing remarks to Disney for firing James Gunn for example.
