Emob78: I think quantity sizes has something to do with it.
Yep. When I first watched "Super Size Me", I was amazed that the small serving in the USA was the big one we got here. I think that is the main cause, helped by the tendency to use cars rather than walking. But that last one is becoming more common here too, so it ought to be less relevant.
Umm,not many references to being just plain lazy, uumm

No, we have not. At least here :P
Didn't they ban Super Size servings in most states?

Yeah I think in all states, that's why I threw "did you" in there. Anyone who hasn't needs to see the movie "Super Size Me". You will never touch that shit again. :D

Yeah, I see now I misread your post. I should be catching some Zzz's, it seems.
I watched that documentary, and even if it was a little bit too exagerated (that restricted walking and excesive eating semeed a little tight, but IDK), it really made the point.
Did you watch the extras, with the infamous experiment with the fries? Never eaten at Mc Donalds' since then xD.
I don't know if it's even true that Americans are that much fatter than everyone else, but I'll put my two cents in. My most memorable food experience in my few visits to America was just grocery shopping. Everything is bigger; the supermarket, package sizes, selection, etc. Also, if you don't have a car in America, you're pretty much fucked unless you're in a major urban centre like New York. Things are too spread out to walk anywhere, so walking regularly isn't an option.

So... Am I totally wrong about this?
Yes, on average, portions are larger in usa, but I for one, usually eat only one huge meal a day, instead of a morderate sized breakfast+lunch+dinner.

I can see large portions becoming a problem if its for all of a persons meals.
But then again, most meals I've seen in usa are shared with 'filler' food, or food with little to zero nutritional value, and still leave you hunger after eating.

Possible chemicals that make your hunger not recede (aka no matter how much you eat you are still hungry), and/or other chemicals to make you addicted.

Genetics must also be a factor, in how our bodies absorb and store the energy from food.

That's quite odd given how expensive health care is in your country.

jefequeso: So... in another thread, someone made a comment about Americans being fat. Which is... you know... a huge revelation -_-

But it got me wondering... what is it that's different about our diet/lifestyle that makes us heavier than people in, say, Europe. Do we really eat/act that differently than our Eastern brethren? Britain doesn't have fast food chains or pizzarias? Germans run/walk more? Or is it something else?

I suppose I could Google this, but it's more fun (read: easier) to just ask all you GOGers from across the ocean.
Almost every country have massive junk food chains (e.g. MacDonald's). And not only Americans are fat, Russians gets fatter lately.
And yes, Europeans have slightly more healthy food. I've been only in Slovakia, Switzerland, Italy, Greece and Netherlands. And they mostly eat cooked normal food. Not that processed with artificial sweeteners junk burgers. Also Europeans drink a lot of good mineral water.
So if you like to get thinned forget about mix coca-cola + hamburger. It's killing you guys. You may occasionally drink soft drink (I suggest once a month) and visit your favorite fast food restaurant. But please don't mix sugar and fat together.
As for the Britain, never been there. But my coworker worked there for several years, and things are not that good. Many bank workers prefers to have sandwiches for the main meal.
And lastly, I don't know about Germans. But one of our bosses from previous Swiss bank work was thin as a dancer. She told me that she don't eat sweets at all and hiking a lot.
You may eat absolutely healthy food, but if you will not walk at least 15km a day or workout in gym, or do some physical activity you may get fat pretty fast. I suggest you have daily walk, active sex life if possible.

And here is a super tip. When you wake up drink 1-2 glasses of pure water (no gas) while you stomach is empty. After 15 minutes you may proceed with food. Don't mix food with liquids, and chew/melt your food in your mouth so it became a stew. It's important. Don't drink after your meal for 1-2 hours.

That list is quite a revelation.

Maybe it's a stereotype but I don't recall ever seeing a fat Chinese person. Had I been asked to pick another country that would appear in a top 10 obesity list after the U.S. I wouldn't have chosen any of those.

Yup. And insurance denies medications because they don't want to pay for it. So what's the point of paying for insurance when your doctors prescribe something and they deny it? American logic 101.

There are plenty of fat Chinese persons there. But I agree that's strange, and most part of 1.3 billion population couldn't be all that fat. It's impossible. However people there are not very rich and they could afford only cheap junk food.

I heard that officials build something like a wall in Beijing (Peking) so the tourists couldn't see or get into poor quarters. Maybe we just don't know all the truth. After all China is a very closed country. How many Chinese people could wipe their interned and join GOG.com and buy some games? Do you know anything about real life in China? I don't.
