It would be an extremely easy solution to prevent the spam that is happening right now for example.
A limit of three would be plenty but two should work for most people.

For context: the thread with this question was created at the time of Babi Ji, the 'Love Astrologer' spamming the forum with dozens of identical threads about selling his love potion. As those threads will get deleted and this thread will survive, it's good to know for anyone reading this, why the question is posted.

True, thanks for pointing that out.
ensuring somebody has to verify their email address before they can use their account would also probably help.

Because GOG's forum software is an old piece of shit lacking even the most basic spam prevention features...
Well, a single bot has pretty much dominated the front page of the forums....

*This is fine :)*

Sachys: ensuring somebody has to verify their email address before they can use their account would also probably help.
Unfortunately there are numerous "disposable e-mail" services that have long made "verification" virtually irrelevant. I agree though that a limit of 2-3x threads per day on new / zero rep accounts would instantly prevent about 90% of spam here. Or another alternative - you have to buy at least one game to post. It might annoy a handful of new posters having problems with Beneath A Steel Sky, etc, freebies in their first ever post (they can still lodge support tickets though), but it'll also eliminate the inevitable problem of spammers blocked from making new threads simply switching to spamming as replies within other people's existing threads.

Maybe this will actually make GOG do something about it. What a glorious day that would be.

EDIT:
Now there are 2 accounts making spam threads....

Noone at GOG is even seeing this now or they would have done something.

Oh com on, how bad could it possible be!? You people are all overreacting!
Give me a sec and I'll just open up a separate window right now and take a look a......

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some observations:

1) The first bot appears to be set on a 1 minute timer, the second bot (the one that appeared later) seems to be set on a 2 minute timer.

2) They are obviously set up by the same person/attacker as they keep making the same-ish threads.

3) All relevant GOG staff seems to be asleep :P

EDIT:
4) The very first spam post is completely missing a thread title. Wondering what the reason might be. Can you even make a thread with no title at all?

I guess, they're on their break.

Either that or this.

And yes, you can make a thread without a title, though I forgot how.
A few years ago someone figured it out and there was a rash of them, from us, all having fun with it.
GOG politely asked us to stop. :P

There is something at the beginning of the thread title - otherwise you couldn't click on it.
It's just not visible.
