For those taking business classes there must be a term for this:

Companies no longer caring about their image once they've made enough

They start off small and are quick to thank you for any participation or good review
until years later they just don't reply to any issues your need to resolve with them.

Any online shopping I do, outside of Steam, I go straight to Paypal disputes because either way you will most likely have to wait a month and there's a much better chance to get your money back if there's a third-party moderator involved.

Steam gets exception only because of their return policy

*this isn't directed at GOG in any way which I don't use much*

The EA effect.
So literally every company ever that's gotten even slightly big?

I'm sure exceptions to that rule would be a considerably shorter list!
Reputation always matter, it's just that their economy benefits more from toning it down. They take a hit, sure, but not as big of a hit as if they would have focused more on their reputation. Cutting corners and all that.

The better you are, the more corners you are able to cut due to one already firmly cemented reputation.

I think the OP's point is that their reputations are so bad but they are so big that they don't care.

Random cases in point off the top of my head:
Samsung
Apple
Microsoft
Google
Facebook

These companies are all horribly abusive to their customers - Making substandard products and selling them for premium prices, flagrant and repeated privacy violations, vendor lock-in, etc., and not only are they not improving, they seem to be getting bolder and worse in what they try to get away with as time goes on.

However, they are now so entrenched that no matter how bad their reputations are this doesn't seem to affect their business at all - People are aware of the badness - It's gotten to the point that not only do they appear in tech news, but they even appear even in mainstream news regularly enough for even normal people to notice, yet revenues still go up, and people still go to them in droves and even try to defend what ever the latest shitty thing they do is in some cases.

It's like some weird corporate stockholm syndrome or something

AMEN!

That guy Joey Kopeski, runs that little diner down the street.
Always been a good honest guy with good food and great coffee, but ever since he got that fancy new neon "Open" sign, he's been an unconscionable asshole! Thinks his shit don't stink!

Now he's promoting paypal. lol
If you're going straight to PayPal disputes, that's not exactly treating any company fairly before dropping a take like that.

The irony is that even paypal is getting worse now and we still don't have a good alternative

By the way- apparently there's an official G2A energy drink now. I just saw it in a store today and I literally felt my brain break a little.

A-MA CONFUSED HOW THE LIVING F***!
One thing to consider is if the company becomes publicly traded. A small company starts out owned by mom and pop and then grows and then gets bought out by or has an ISO and becomes a publicly traded company when it gets big.

When owned by mom and pop, they can run their business any way they want, including taking profit hits to improve their reputation. Once it becomes a publicly traded company however, they are required BY LAW to put shareholder return/value as their priority number one. Even if it means a loss of reputation.
