toxicTom: Everywhere? Not having some "music" blaring away in the background (interrupted by self-promotion and the latest "sale") is really the exception. In big malls (try Leipzig main station for instance) just passing through will clutter your head with like 20 different songs just while passing by all the shops - and the station itself has also playing music...
Not where I'm from and where I currently reside. It's been a while since I've been to the Leipzig main station (properly 2008 and just passing through/by 2010, 2012 and 2015). Since when does the station itself play music? That would be really annoying for sure.

dtgreene: The problem comes when you lose to a sore winner, and it's that sort of thing that turns me off to competition.

Now, if you lose to an opponent who is a good sport, or lose in a single player game, then the problem isn't so bad, provided you're not one who gets irrationally angry whenever you lose. (If you're that type of person, you probably don't want to play what could be called "troll games", or games that hit the player with traps that will cause an unsuspecting player to suddenly lose.)

Losing to someone who is a good sport and has the mindset of a teacher could definitely be a good learning experience. Losing to a sore winner, however, is not.
Teaching children to win and lose gracefully is the parents' responsibility. My son was a horrible sore loser, but we taught him differently. It's good to feel bad about losing. It's NOT good to feel so bad that you scream and rant and quit. Same with winning. It's good to feel good about winning. It's not ok to rub someone else's face in their loss. Congratulate them on their attempt/effort and enjoy your victory, it says more than your words ever could. Unfortunately parents actually engaging with and teaching their children anything these days seems to be a rarity because they'd rather be posting their kids to social media.

Ever since the renovation in 1997... At night when it's rather quiet it's actually pretty nice sometimes - they play "music of the spheres" or slow jazz then. But during the day they also play pop, and together with the cacophony from the shops and the noise of shoppers and commuters this is really annoying.

And btw.: even our village supermarket plays continuous music, interrupted by (pretty embarrassingly amateurish) announcements why they are the greatest.

Wait, are you sure? I've been to the Games Convention from 2005 till 2008 and we usually checked out the Saturn there on the way back and I didn't notice anything. Of course, we usually talked along the way, so I might have not noticed but I did go by/through alone at other times.

Haha. I come from the countryside (a village even) and the nearby Rewe, Netto (2x yellow, 1x black), Spar, Aldi, Plus, Schlecker etc never had music. And even here in a proper city (~175k pop), the Rewe and Netto don't play any. Been a while since I've been to Kaufland but I don't think it had any either.

What I find interesting is how within the span of only several years behavior in public has dramatically changed.

First the mobile phones: Suddenly seemingly everyone around was loudly announcing their most private things in public, not caring if people around would listen in...
Now with the smartphones people have secluded into their own private worlds - ears shut by earbuds, environment drowned out by music, and the eyes fixed on the display.

In Leipzig Kaufland even started with the smelling stuff ("shopping aroma"?), that's when I stopped going there altogether - didn't like the places in the first place - always very crowded, huge and confusing layout...

"Shopping aroma"? First time I've even heard of that, lol. But yeah, I would stop going to such a place too if they started doing that. I just want to buy my things in peace (well, quickly in peace at least). I generally like a wide selection, but the Kaufland here had expired chocolate the last time I bought something and luckily, it's not at a point that I would pass by under normal circumstances. Rewe has been my go-to supermarket, ever since they took over Extra.

Touchscreen keyboards.

Yes, they have good points - such as being able to switch layout on the fly, and making the device smaller - but they're f**king annoying to type on and they take up valuable screen real estate. Of course, I enjoy my Cherry MX Red and buckling spring switches.

It has a lot more implications than that. See all the topics here where people are complaining about something because they still think that GOG is (or should be) a website supported by 2 guys in a garage, catering to people that can configure their autoexec.bat files.
Those annoying people on their cell phones are the average Joes/Janes, and the internet is now (being) (re)made in their image.

people who game on there phones are the cancer of gaming its cos of those people we get shitty mobile games like diablo immortal, and microtransactions, pc and console games didnt have micro transactions until shit mobile games came along.

crap mobile games include
elderscrolls blades
fortnite
diablo immortal
command and conquer ( yeah theres a mobile game for this)

so if anyone uses a phone for gaming here you are part of the problem, just use ya phone for normal means like scoial media and friends, its sad to see young people just glued to there iphones all the time
