Linko90: Where's the excuse?

What is the excuse for?

Lexor: For GOG to copy Steam :D

Linko90: Steam copied X-fire.

Lexor: That's no excuse.
Well excuse me, princess.
Copying Steam? It's the end of the world!!! Someone think of the children!!!

MightyPinecone: Yes, GOG is copying Steam. The hours played depend on whether you've played the game using GOG Galaxy, and if so, if if Galaxy is set to log your gaming time (I believe it is by default).

aristotle61: I had a feeling it's accuracy was tied to GOG Galaxy in some way. I guess this is just another way to get people to use GOG Galaxy. No thanks.
Wait, I'm sorry, how in the world else do you expect it to record your playtime other than with Galaxy? What even?

Maybe with the games starting file. Its not like they could not sneak it in with some kind of new game update. It depends how adamant they are on playing data leeches.
avatar
aristotle61: Is GOG attempting to copy Steam now with a record being kept on the games played and how long that you have played each one?

Mine is useless. It's completely wrong. They need to fix it or just get rid of it.
What's going on with Gog profiles? Not much. If they have anything else planned for them they're keeping it secret from us.

HunchBluntley: What's going on with them?! What isn't going on with them, amirite? =D

Well.............. I wasn't really expecting them to record my game time. I already have that feature on Steam, and to be honest, it's kind of depressing. :)

Crickets riding tumbleweeds. Bored-looking crickets.

Depends on the game... 100 hours spent in a story-telling masterpiece like Witcher 3... great. 100 hours spent in some 'click-to-win' stimulus-response optimised game with no intellectual gain however... feel like trained monkey (yes, I've been there too).

Why is it depressing?

It's depressing to see how much time I spent playing a video game. You know, as opposed to spending that time on something a little more productive. If I don't see the time, I can delude myself into thinking it's not that much. :)

And it's utterly inaccurate. I frequently sleep my laptop with a game running so if I pick it up after a week, it shows that I've spent hunders of hours in the game.

Both Galaxy and the game have still been running (technically) while in sleep mode. Presumably Galaxy is reporting the hours based on when you started playing and when the game is terminated.
