andysheets1975: N64 emulation is kind of a disaster considering how old the system is at this point. I guess it's better than Atari Jaguar emulation but...
Emulation for consoles that were not that popular is a disaster in general. To this day we still don't have decent 3DO and Saturn emulators, for example (the Jaguar is another great example, but you have already mentioned it).

Neobr10: Why are you posting in this thread then?
Because i figured it had to be said? Seriously a console pushing for 3D graphics while limiting the cartridge to 64Mb was a bad move. There's several games i've played or tried and in the end it was so unfulfilling, so i stated my opinion that you'd have trouble filling in a list of fifty or a hundred games. I'm not impressed with the list, but at least it doesn't contain such gems like Superman64...

avatar
Neobr10: Don't you have more productive stuff to do?
Nope.

I suppose i could take a nap...

avatar
Neobr10: Have you read the OP?
Pretty sure i did before i first posted, but that was a while ago and i can't remember it word for word.

avatar
Neobr10: Are you going to quote stuff i didn't say?
Nope... at least i don't think so...

Then why don't you make your own fucking thread about how much the N64 sucks instead of derailing a productive thread? Did you read the OP?

Besides, you have already admited yourself that you never owned the console, you don't know shit about it. Go away, troll.

Well let's not forget 3D was getting it's purchase and halfway decent implementation, with Nintendo showing how to do it right with Mario64, and helped set the bar of how games should be. Kinda unfortunate Sega didn't take camera controls and stuff to heart, as i'm sure if you dealt with most of those issues half their 3D games would have been good...

Still, the 3D i think was pushed too much. Some games did it really well, like Killer Instinct Gold, although as a fighting game with 2 characters, a background, and only a few particle effects they could have much more complex models and move sets.

I would have happily taken the Chrono Trigger game, added a ton of extra times, features, stories, items, and other adventures on it, and enjoyed the hell out of it. The raw specs show the N64 is a decent system, i won't lie; But by far it's biggest problem is the limited game storage size, which Nintendo has always been hesitant to move to optical discs...

And i guess all in all, i probably will never acquire that N64 taste... Maybe if i had a chance years ago to emulate the full system and play a full set of the games when i was poor and there was nothing else to do, then i probably would have come to love it. But no, afraid not.

Never owned it, never owned the Wii either... that's not the same as never having played it. Blame my GF for having a N64, a few choice games, and me having a chance to play them... And a few gaming parties where people brought their systems and i tried Quest64 among other games.

*twitch* ...dont remind me
sega still has nto figured out how to do a good 3D camera almost 20 years after mario 64
sonic adventure is somewhat forgivable its only 3 years after mario 64
sega's first true full 3D sonic game

but they are still ballsing it up with sonic boom in 2014 and thats absolutley unforgivable ( as well as mind boggeling )

whats even mor egalling is that sega was at the for front of the 3D "revolution" with multiple camera's in virtua racing sega rally and daytona usa
if anything they should know better

as for the n64 :
small library
blurry milky graphics
limited third party support
tiny cardridges
even smaller texture buffer ( 4 k i believe )

there are some great games for the machine it did soem amazing things btu there is also a lot crap for it
and it didnt age all that well
and i cant play an n64 any more these days

the low resolution and low poly models just dont agree with me anymore zela oot was a jagged mess on the n64
and the herky jerky fps coutn gave me motion sickness

i can only play these games on the cube ( zelda collectors disc) or on the wii\super wii plus ( wii U )
shame really
Come to think of it, DOOM 64 is pretty good. It becomes downright awesome with the DOOM 64 EX port to PC.

They really should just drop 3D and make a new new 2D sonic games, follow the same basic limitations that the Genesis/SNES had for the main game, then add extra effect afterwards. Throw in some interesting new mechanics that are interesting, semi-physics and fun, and you'd probably have tons of people wanting to play it.

Hmmm... Or you could just play Freedom Planet...

DOOM seems like one of the few games that would work wonderfully on the N64's 3D graphics, although i haven't seen or played the game myself i can only assume it's leaps and bounds better than the SNES's SFX chip they had to bolt on to make it work (very very slowly) yet the TV commercials didn't post the 5FPS as a feature of the game... odd...

i have no love for sonic to be honest
i dont care much for the character or the games
im just annoyed at sega's ineptitude to make a decent sonic game especially in the wake of generations and colors
and mostly because im still a sega fan at heart and want them to do well instead of making a laughing stock out of themselves and sonic

( yes yes i know irrational i dont owe sega anything its nostalgia talking )

doom 64 is very very very dark

literally you have to turn up your tv's brigthness to see a damn thing
I don't think anyone mentioned Armorines yet. That was such an awesome shooter.

Personally i was never grabbed by sonic either. Maybe more it's that they pumped the franchise out like TMNT did, making comic books and TV shows and other crap that had almost nothing to do with the game(s).

Honestly i want to see them do well too, and Capcom too. I wonder if that's what's really keeping those two companies alive...

I think that at this point set a doesn't have anyone skilled enough to make a new side scroller that would be genuinely as good as their classic fare was. Sonic four and Sonic generations were both good showings, but ultimately were just that.

Maybe. Or maybe Sega barely manages to milk enough from their classics pack which they put out every few years for each new platform that it keeps them afloat... Because people want to be able to play their old classic games and guess what, they sold/threw away their old systems when the new ones came out...

For.. whatever reason? I don't get that... Why would you throw out or trade in all your game systems and games when you are immediately done playing them at that moment, or when the next one comes out? It doesn't make sense to me...
