This is not a rant and I do understand that GoG does not have the same policies of Steam, but I don't understand why a product that does not work should be sell on a store. Before making my purchase, I did not read any warning saying "this game will not work even with compatiblity mode enabled, but you will need an older version of windows instead".

So, bought the game. Tried to make it run properly without success and contacted GoG support. This is what they said:

"We weren't able to make the game work reliably on our test computers running that system. Maybe you have access to a different PC that meets the system requirements and that you could use to play the game? If not, I can make an exception and convert this purchase to wallet funds, that you can use towards buying a different games".

As you can see the guy was pretty straightforward and I would say polite.
Because I paid only 5 bucks, in my reply I hesitated to accept the refund (basically I did not say yes or no).
This experience made me worried about buying other games on this platform, though.
What if I buy let's say 10 games and 5 of them don't work?

Well, maybe you want to tell us the name of the game? Maybe someone knows how to get it to work.

Carabbo: Maybe you have access to a different PC that meets the system requirements and that you could use to play the game?
This implies that 1) there is a system that can run the game 2) the system requirements are listed on the store page 3) your system does not meet the stated requirements.

If you don't want to take a risk, then read the system requirements carefully and make sure your system meets them before making a purchase.

I really appreciate you help, but the main focus here is "I don't understand why a product that does not work should be sell on a store [...] What if I buy let's say 10 games and 5 of them don't work?"

As long as there is a system that can run the game, why not sell it? Maybe I have just that system. And maybe I want that game.

This is why you should read the system requirements. If Win 10, isn't listed and you're using Win 10, DO NOT BUY THE GAME. They will tell you if the game is supposed to work on Win 10. They are nice to offer a refund because not meeting the system requirements is not grounds for a refund. Pay attention to what you're getting.

Then refund the games, it's no problem getting it for games that don't work and Steam like every other store sells tons of games that doesn't work or is supported by every OS, atleast GOG in this regard try to update older games for modern systems even if it doesn't always work for one reason or another and on steam you will have to fix that yourself which can be a pain in the arse for one person.
This is nothing strange and some games are very hard to get running on modern systems especially old ones.

Aren't games on GoG patched in order to work with newer systems?
Some days ago I bought few games on Steam that work only with XP/Vista according to the listed requirements.
So I just chose the right compatibility and I did not have much trouble with them.

Some are, many are not.

Regular steam user makes a new account.

Says he bought a couple of new games on GOG which do not work, unlike the games on steam (like steam ever cared if a game works on rig X or Y).

Clearly refuses to state which games are not working (GOG's game pages clarly states which specific OS the game runs on) in order to obtain tech help.

If he's not a Troll, then he's putting very few effort in demonstrating it.
Just my 2 cents :|

Wow, you're cool.
What game did you buy and what system did you try to run it on?

What a shame! They should never come here.

C'mon, give them the benefit of the doubt. At least they quoted a legit reply from support, and their profile page confirms they have two games. This isn't be good enough trolling effort to be one of us forum regulars, and I can't see why a non-regular would waste their time contacting support (or finding someone else's support exchange to copy-pasta) just for a troll post that isn't even flammable.

I don't think this is a troll.

I think most are, but for some it's apparently next to impossible, e.g. those Interstate racing games.

Dunno, seems like 80% of the Quake engine games are affected by the extension string bug which takes two minutes to patch by hand and GOG is still not patching them. I don't think GOG is doing as much as some would have you believe.
