It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Thorfinn: This is a major disappointment.

Galaxy doesn't fit the need, because I don't install games on my internet machine, only on my in-house LAN. So it's offline only.

Which is something of a problem because I have no idea when there's a game updated what exactly changed. Changelog doesn't really help. Take Train Valley, which says it's been updated, but the changelog says the last change was on 1 AUG 2019. I'm left with downloading EVERYTHING, then using a file sync program to figure out whether I should overwrite the old content or if it's just duplicate files with a new date.

MarkoH01: I am a bit confused. GOG Downloader also did not show what had been updated - you still needed to look at the website and follow the "What did just update" thread (if you did not want to use GOGrepo or similar tools.
Wow. I hadn't even noticed the reply. Sorry if you thought I was ignoring you. For a year. ;)

What the downloader did was only download the things that actually changed. If there was something new in the goodies, it skipped all the stuff you already had. Instead of downloading all the 4GB .bins, it would run the CRC if you already had the file to make sure it wasn't corrupted somehow.

Now if it says it's been updated, and I can't figure out what, I just download everything and do a full check with FreeFileSync, then delete it from the downloads directory.

Okay, I am crossing you from my "obviously hates me" list :D
No, don't worry - all is fine.

I understand. The downloader did not download anything it already had but again it also never told you what exactly changed. That is a thing you still had to figure out by yourself since changelogs are rare.
IF YOU WANT TO LET GOG KNOW HOW YOU FEEL, YOU STILL CAN BY VOTING.
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/keep_the_gog_downloader_and_keep_it_up_to_date

The wishlist is up to 1965 votes now. :)

We still haven't quite made it to 2000 votes yet ... but it's getting closer.

More votes would be really nice, then GOG may just take notice.

Used to have it on my Windows machine.
Worked well in bad network speeds.

Are you asking people to vote or assasinating the ones who already did?

Why not both?!

Look at Devotion: over 8k votes in around a month...more being added till this day & some YTers(and others) talking about it across the net....and not a peep from GOG

If that much of a fuss being kicked up cannot budge GOG, do you really think they'll budge on this?

Hello, I am pretty new and am wondering what was the GOG downloader and what is the difference between the browser and gog downloader if someone does not mind explaining it to me.

GOG DLer was a downloader/download manager for GOG games long ago, a sort of precursor to the same DL functionality in Galaxy. When Galaxy 2.0 went live(or around then) GOG "retired" GOG DLer, much to the dismay of a number of goggers.

Short answer: Browsers still exist. GOGDownloader doesn't.

Long answer:

GOGDownloader was a convenient way to download you offline backup installers, when they were still the only way to install GOG games. Then came Galaxy. Then came Galaxy 2 and the APIs to download the offline installers changed too much to keep the Downloader alive.

Problem is, it's way harder to download the offline installers through Galaxy and keep track of updates. Scripts like gogrepy.py do that nowadays way better. Which is hard for people who simply want a slim, fuzz-free tool to keep their library up-to-date.

Gogrepo is a great alternative if you are willing to get it working. It does checks and only downloads new/changed files once you have it set up.

Gog downloader was the client for downloading before galaxy and featured a lightweight method to queue downloads and only download files needed to bring an entry up-to-date.
