Leroux: Hm, I tried to come up with an honest answer, but in the end nothing really seems satisfactory to me ...
My first impulse would be to take Neverwinter Nights (ideally both, but at the very least the first one) and also Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures, because those offer enough for a lifetime if you play and create custom modules. But then you'd probably tell me there's no internet access to download modules or research building advice, and there are no other people that would play any potential creations of mine either, so it would become rather pointless.
The next idea would be to take those games that I'm eager to play now and that I haven't played through yet, like Dreamfall Chapters or Divinity: Original Sin. But those would only last a few weeks at best. Because even if they turn out to be my favorite games ever - or if I'd pack my favorite games ever instead of them - I just can't imagine not getting bored replaying them over and over again. I like games with story, but I don't like to hear the same story again and again, so it would have to be games without strong story elements that are just about skills like Super Puzzle Platformer, Wacky Wheels, or maybe Ziggurat or something like that. But they sometimes bore me after a couple of hours already.
I just can't picture a scenario where I'd be restricted to playing the same five games over and over again, without friends or internet connection, and actually enjoying it. I think in that case I'd rather do something else entirely. :/
(Or maybe, just maybe, out of sheer desperation I would finally learn to enjoy strategy and building sim games, which right now I'm biased against because they are such time sinks and I'd rather spend the time playing lots of shorter games with story .... But nah, I think I'd get sick of them pretty quickly too.)
Loving the amount of thought you gave this :) It really starts to become clear how spoiled for games we are doesn't it? We can just jump from game to game during the year to stave off the slightest onset of boredom. This year alone I must've dipped into something like 10 games already.
? The levels are quite short for the most part, especially when compared to most strategy games, and it has some light base building elements which is wicked fun from an fps perspective. I believe the original is still freely available as well, and works pretty well on modern systems if you want to check it out before spending $20 on the remastered version.
Matewis: Uhm, I suppose, if you are ok with a couple months/years worth of ping. I'm not sure how far Decapod is from Earth.
ashwald: Will our computers be able to connect to the Decapodian internet? Will we also get text translators (I'm assuming we'll have something for speech anyway otherwise we wouldn't be able to understand anything spoken at court)?
