You can use gogrepo. It's a lot better than the downloader for backing up your library.

The alternative I found was gogrepo and it's better than the downloader ever was.

Timboli: But on checking my library I see the GOG Downloader links have gone from each library game page. No small undertaking I believe, though maybe automated to some degree.

SirPrimalform: Surely you jest. You don't seriously think that every single game page in your library is written manually? It's a standard template and the information and links for each game come from a database. Deleting the links is as simple as removing the GOG Downloader links from the template.

If only any of that applied to linux users...who literally cannot use Galaxy as the client has no linux version.

As for the rest - you *can* download with a browser, but that experience is so awful, it's clear GOG wants you to use Galaxy. Which again is not available to me, so I have to use the browser. Which is atrocious.

So you see (hopefully) why the request to improve upon the browser downloads, or let the GOG downloader exist or even improve upon it, or pay the guys doing the 3rd party tools something or at least pin their threads on these forums so people can realise there is an alternative, is appropriate.

And that's all I was saying.

Have you not tried any of the several download scripts available? They are better than the GOG Downloader ever was.

basically they are always looking for things they can whine about
fe here , there are better alternatives than this abandoned downloader which so few used gog decided to not support anymore , yet they don't want to use it, why? cause then they couldn't whine about it ,it is clear
sollution : just ignore these whiners, they will accept this downloader is not efficient use of gog's manpower and will move on, i bet most didnt even used it

oh and they also gonna downvote cause they are full of hate :P hello downvoters^^

rojimboo: My point was that even though there are really good alternatives like lgogdownloader, they are managed by one person, who does it for free, and yet he manages a better job at it than GOG, who is unable to provide us with a better way to download offline installers apart from the browser.
Not necessarily just one person. E.g. for gogrepo the original author has been inactive for quite some time, so the project was branched and "adopted" by another. There are also other gogrepo branches by other people, and also at least two other less-known alternatives to gogrepo and lgogdownloader.

Also, these third-party user-made tools are quite bare-boned (not in functionality, but ease-of-use and interface). They don't have any GUI, setting them up can take some effort etc. An official tool would be expected to have a proper installer for different OSes, GUI etc.

Most stores similar to GOG offer only browser downloads, or at least as their main method. I got A.I.M. from indiegala.com a couple of days ago, and "had to" download it with my browser.

On top of that, GOG allows one to download them with the official Galaxy client.

But why does GOG rely on the goodwill of these few developers to provide users and customers with a well functioning tool, that should have been provided by GOG themselves?
The reason GOG hasn't offered such mass-downloading tool (where you basically can download ALL your games with "one click") is the same no other store offers it either:

They don't want to promote the idea that their customers constantly download and redownload all their games, but rather only when they are going to play some game.

It is quite understandable, after all the update and download functions of e.g. gogrepo can certainly cause quite a significant stress on GOG servers (ie. both when the tool downloads all the information from gog.com what games someone has on their GOG account, and actually downloading the games).

GOG could alleviate that stress somewhat at least for the downloading part by offering also an option to use p2p technology (e.g. bittorrent) to download the installers. Humble Store at least used to offer such an option (but it doesn't download everything you have with one click, but you have to click through all your games in your account, one by one).

So, all in all, it would be nice if GOG offered some official "one click mass-download tool", but I am not holding my breath waiting for it and can understand why GOG nor any other store offers such an option.

Also, in a sense I prefer that e.g. gogrepo is an user-made tool because it is now quite cross-platform, you can run it on pretty much any device and OS that can run python scripts. I am running it e.g. on my Raspberry Pi4 minicomputer. If there was an official tool with a GUI etc., then it would most probably at least at first be restricted to Windows, then maybe, just maybe, also Macs and Linux. I am 99% confident that e.g. my Raspberry Pi4 wouldn't get its own version of such client. It has it perks that some software is open source managed by many users...

Maybe my main wish towards GOG at this point is that they don't try to block tools like gogrepo or lgogdownloader from working. So far no sign of that.

Fellow Aussie, use a third party downloader. It might take extra effort to click on each installer, but there's nothing wrong with using something like FDM (Free Download Manager) if GOG insists on terminating Downloader. Speed is excellent as well, and I'm likely on a worse cap and flakier connection than you are. It obviously won't verify your files for you, but I've never had corrupt sectors this way, and you can update dead download links and pause / resume downloads (even throttle) as you need.

I've desperately been trying to get people to support my wishlist for getting checksums added to the download page, but for some reason even after a year I haven't even gotten 200 votes yet despite prodding the forum about it.

yeah hash checks should be added, it isn't even costly to do, maybe some hours for a developer

I don't know about that since I only downvote spammers or those who I believe are DRM shills (i.e. people saying "just buy the Scheme version"). But, maybe you realize that your manner in this topic hasn't exactly been endearing. You have basically made fun of Downloader users and act like you're better for using GOGRepo...guess what, it didn't have to be an either/or choice...as proven by the last five years!
