Should the title be: "Very disappointed with No Man's Sky support for GOG"? In the end updates are pushed by the devs/publishers, not by GOG.
NMS is the first game I've purchased on GOG which flat out didn't work at all, didn't even get to the main menu simply because I have a Phenom CPU. I've had games which crash or other problems, but they did actually run. GOG do test games that come here (or they should) so they should have outright refused this game to be released until it worked on all CPU's within minimum system requirements. They probably got caught up in the hype for this game and didn't test it because they (like many websites) thought this game would be the second coming.

Crosmando: .
As much as I myself frown upon Early Access, since some people are willing to pay and beta test, maybe it's the right way to go for new releases.
As long as you can get a refund, that's the most important thing.

I don't think the problem is with GOG but with the developers or publishers, after all this is not the first time Steam gets prioritized over GOG when it comes to updates and patches.

Pre-ordering is always a gamble, I think most of us here have bad experiences with it, myself included.
Today I only pre-order from developers I've had a long consumer relationship with, never from new developers.

Kibou: Again: Steam users with Phenom CPUs can launch this game and play since Monday. GoG users still can't play today.

PaterAlf: Phenom issue should be fixed now:

It is, I have already downloaded and tried the patch : )

About NMS support for GoG: This might be true, but we can't know for sure who is at fault there. All I can tell for sure is that some info here and there would have gone a long way.

GOG doesn't write patches and can't make another company do it. The only thing I fault them for is getting sucked in by the hype train and missing some ominous red flags that were popping up. Hopefully, they'll stick to what they're capable of doing adequately moving forward, i.e., serving a few niche markets.

Crosmando: GOG do test games that come here (or they should)
I think that applies only to those older games where GOG itself does some compatibility work (and testing). For new games, they probably don't do at least similar testing, as that is the developer's job (in case of newer titles where the developer is still active, making updates etc.).

It may be GOG does some simple sanity checking that the game generally seems to install and work on some system, but throughout testing on various different configurations? I don't think so.

Kibou: I've always been quite fond of GoG, and I've never liked Steam much. No Man's Sky was one of the first full-price modern games I purchased on GoG, and my first GoG pre-order. However, it turned out to be quite a disappointing experience, and I'm currently thinking about getting a refund and moving over to Steam.

Let me sum up the last week:

Friday 12th: PC release of No Man's Sky. Crash at startup on all AMD Phenom CPUs, which also affects me.

Monday 15th: An experimental patch on Steam fixes the Phenom issue. No patch on GoG, no info from GoG staff.

Thursday 18th: The official version of the patch is released on Steam and GoG. Even though it's supposedly the same version, the GoG patch doesn't fix the Phenom issue. Again, no word from GoG staff.

So today I'm still no able to play the game I've paid 60€ for, while users on Steam are able to play since Monday.

Would anyone from GoG staff like to say anything about that? Is this how your support is supposed to work, and what I can expect for any future purchases on GoG?
A few updates from our side, if I may :)

- We launched the game at the same time as Steam.
- The experimental patches - the patches were internal test patches not fit for public release and, thus, were only offered via a password-protected branch. Hello Games uploaded each and every single one of these patches on our side but did not release them because, according to the developers, they were not fit for release even on an experimental branch. Please keep in mind that anything that gets uploaded by the developers in our pipeline needs to be greenlit by the developers themselves before being released in any shape or form.
- Regarding the official patches, on Thursday, Hello Games released the first public patch (1284085) and it was available in parallel with Steam. Today, (19 August 2016) there was a new patch delivered (version 1287169) in parallel with Steam. This patch has fixed the issues that plagued anyone with an AMD Phenom processor along with other miscellaneous fixes. So all the official updates were and will be released in parallel with Steam.

Please do keep in mind, that we are continuously working with Hello Games to ensure that everyone gets the best experience with NMS :)

Yeah but in turn, if you condemn a great show, it's still a great show.

Yeah but why buy for the shit show on the stage, when the interesting one is happening away from it.

You have totally just confused the shit out of me. :P

blotunga: Never buy games at launch. I have a huge backlog, so I can wait until the games I'd like to play are 1-2 years old and at a reasonable price.

rtcvb32: Ditto, agree 100%. I honestly don't consider games costing more than $20, not just because I have to be frugal, but I can't think of any games worth over the $20 price tag.

The last game I paid nearly full price for, was Divinity Dragon Commander. Kinda disappointing since I wish the RTS would have an option to play itself out and I enter in to assist rather than swapping between ordering troops, making new units, and trying to manage against an AI. In one fight I had a 90% chance to win, and I lost because the AI ran around doing it's own thing while my team did nothing unless I explicitly told them to do something. Either full RTS, or avoid the game and play it like a board game. Just something that makes me wish I didn't buy the game until it was heavily on sale... :(

But enough ranting on highly priced games for that part. No game NEEDS to be bought at launch in order to play it. Wait til it comes down in price. I the most I've ever paidt eventually will... Probably. (Not every game will be a Nintendo eshop game or Shovel knight where they never seem to be discounted)
The most I've ever paid for a game was 23$, for oblivion with all doc's. Never regretted it. 400+ hours over many years. Vibrant missing scene. Enjoyed every minute.

Never paid more than 15& for anything else. I paid 15$ once for the humble monthly bundle, and I won't do that again
Just to much money.
Yup, this game is a piece of shit. I just got my refund. Tired of hearing about this fucking game.

All opinion. NMS bored the fucking SHIT out of me. Wow, fly around looking at pretty things.
Yay.
That's.. all it is. The vast majority of the planets ARE THE SAME. After 2-3 hours, it's the SAME GAME!
