Price drop, fixes and free DLC!

Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, a heavy hack'n'slash action RPG with a two-sided twist, just received a price-drop, free DLC for everyone who owns the game, and a few tweaks and updates! To make the deal sweeter, the game is also 50% off for the next week!

Take control of the Devourer, a demon that swallows the souls of the dead and brings them back into the mortal realm as puppets. But is the demon their master – or their servant? Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms is the first part of a sequel to the classic Kult: Heretic Kingdoms (also known as Heretic Kingdoms: Inquisition), it's a tale of a world and its shadows - both of which you will walk with grace to overcome anything in your path, but beware that each world presents it's own dangers and challenges.

On top of the permanent price-drop, the game is now updated with plenty of tweaks and bug fixes and a French language version. For even more gameplay, originally-exclusive DLC is now free for everyone! The DLC includes three new quests: Tholean Tablet, The Owl Amulet and The Scorpion King.

If you're eagerly awaiting Book 2 of the story, the devs are preparing an impressive technological update to the game which will allow them to execute every bit of new content and gameplay planned into the sequel, no cutting corners. They should have more news on the update and progress on Book 2 production later in the year.

Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms is now available better and cheaper than ever, DRM-free on GOG.com. The promo will last one week, until Friday, September 4, 10:59 AM GMT.

amrit9037: If I buy game today would I get free dlcs or it's only available for people who brought it before promo?
The free DLCs are already included in the game's installer.
Okay. Thank you pro cat.

Leroux: So you've played it already? I've read a lot of good things about presentation and writing, but pretty bad things about (supposedly slow and bland) combat and performance
avatar
Garran: The performance issues have mostly been related to controllers, and the recent patches have helped out there.

As for the combat...
Thanks Garran for your posts, I was really on the fence about this game, Ill pick this up next week. :)
Is there a date available for when this game (part 2) will be completed? I dont really want to buy half a game even though it seems quite cheap.

No date, at least, not a specific one. The developers have said that it won't be coming in 2015 and that they are aiming for a 2016 release.

Thank you Grargar :)

It seems like good value as it stands, about 15 hours for a tenner, its worth a shot, thanks :)
About 15 hours for one play-through. However, three play-throughs are a reasonable option because your initial choice of puppet (Kalig/Jasker/Evia) makes a significant difference to the dialogues (both with the NPCs and with the other 'talking' puppets in Book 1), the way some of the 'standard' missions proceed, and set up a series of puppet-specific side quests.
Played it back in the day when it was new on Steam. The game felt like the worst kind of mediocrity - it has several small annoyances throughout for me, but it's not bad enough to drop it before finishing it once. Except that at some point I got lost on the quests (all of them, really) and since I couldn't find anything resembling a proper walkthrough I quit trying.

Hope you guys like it better, but I'd still say Victor Vran is way better of an ARPG, at least from the 3 hours I've played it so far.

JudasIscariot: If you wait a bit, we've received an update from GamesFarm for the original Heretic Kingdoms that should work for you :)
avatar
Luned: Does "wait a bit" mean "within 24 hours-ish" or the indeterminate "Soon"? Because the original HK hates both of the graphics cards in my laptop, and my husband's commandeered the desktop for Xenonauts. Hoping the update will fix that.
Hi,

The update is out and available via Galaxy and there's a new offline installer available :) Please let me know if anything changed for you :)

As soon as I get home tonight and can get it installed and checked on...expect a report in 10 hours or so.

Wow! That's awesome then! Thanks for the info. Hmm... May I ask what does the free DLC really add to the game? Will it add some new items and side quests?

It adds three side quests. Two of them take place in Thole (Chapter 1) and one takes place in the wastelands (Chapter 2).

Some components of the quests could be found even without the DLC (the pikeman ghost in the catacombs, for example), but they didn't do anything without it.

For its part, Games Farm (the developer) didn't want to separate those three out as a DLC in the first place but BitComposer (the publisher) insisted on it, having been bitten by the "Day one DLC" bug. Now that BitComposer is out of the picture, the quests have been put back in as part of the standard game.

Whoa! Three additional side quests being included into the standard game for free! Thank you so much for clearing that up, I didn't got a clue regarding what the DLCs was all about. I thought it was the new DLC soundtrack that's available for purchase aside from the standard game? Been playing the game for quite a while and really enjoying it! Looking forward for Book 2!

The soundtrack and the three quests were bundled into a DLC under BitComposer, and it was only available on Steam at the time. Now that Game Farm is in control, the three quests are part of the base game and the DLC is just the soundtrack - and available here too.

It's 3 days now, so no news is good news. She should be too busy playing to make a report.
