Hey Folks,

Just found out that the team (or part) of ''Looking Glass'' that made Última Underworld' have a sequel in the works. It's another crowd funded project I think..

Just wanted to tell others in case they werent aware...

Yep, [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/ultima_series/ultima_underworld_is_making_a_comeback]know.
Actually.. is it still the same one or is another Kickstarter for the same game?
This isn't a sequel really though, is it?

It's a (holds two fingers up from both hands and wiggles them to illustrate quotation marks) "spiritual successor".

Either way this is the best news heard in recent memory. Shame I never heard about it earlier. The page/link I pasted is early part of the year. Should of had a bit more publicity really. Without that these crowd funded projects really dont get off the ground like they should.

Well they did have a succesfull KS and are hard at work in making it, so they did manage it pretty well.
I'm little bit tempted, but will probably wait and see. I loved the Ultima Underworld games, but I am not generally that hot after sequels (especially unofficial ones) of very old classics. Better use their resources to make something new and bold.

They could always do what EA did with Dungeon Keeper, make it a mobile free-to-play game. Run out of torches and food in the dark dungeon? Not to worry! Buy some more with real money. Yeeh that would work.

EDIT: So it is funded already? Ok then, I will wait and see. Somewhat interested to see how this turns out, but then I have lots of other great games waiting to be played too.

They gathered almost 900k from KS.

In Ultima Underworld there are stories of how the underground colony was founded by Sir Cabirus, and how the civilisation eventually fell apart after Cabirus's death. Ascension is set in the very same Underworld as UU's (but without the Britannia tie-ins, which aren't actually too important to Underworld's story) and takes place in the wake of Cabirus's... wake.

It's not a "spiritual successor" like Arx Fatalis, but an actual successor set in an earlier time period (a prequel).

I'm still confused why it's bad that EA does this, but Chris Roberts gets a pass on everything he's doing with Star Citizen.
I've understood there's also a some sort of tie in with Garriott's new Shroud of the Avatar.

Maybe an unofficial one but at least many of the original creators are involved. That's good enough for me. Otherwise it would of been more a tribute game.

Well, I used to say that why Supercell got a pass with Clash of Clans, people didn't seem to mind that it (and countless other mobile games, like Candy Crush Saga etc.) use basically the same irritation tactics as Dungeon Keeper. Pay up, or wait for a couple of hours, your "choice".

I guess it is because it is part of the Dungeon Keeper franchise. A bit like people hated Ultima 9 not because it was just some bad game, but because it was (allegedly) a bad Ultima game. I wouldn't know though as I've yet to play it, meaning to do that for two decades or so.

I think, if you actually write the quotation marks (like you have done in your post), you don't have to "wiggle your fingers", because then it would be ""spiritual successor"".

Nitpicking, I know...sometimes I hate myself for it... *lets head hang and exits stage left, sobbing*
