nightcraw1er.488: Of that list I have only played hotline Miami and spelunky, didn't think much of either. No idea who this overmars chappie is.
Marc Overmars is the creator of Game Maker.

I got bored of Hotline Miami (kept losing), didn't like Spelunky and HATED Risk of Rain. I didn't even put Undertale on the list because the game part of it is trash. But these are all well-regarded games. A blanket condemnation of Game Maker games as a "travesty", especially when you only played two and they were meh, is a travesy in itself.
I was playing through Ultima series at one point but got stuck at the end on U4. That last dungeon was a pain in the arse.

I am really wanting to someday finish it and import my party into U5 though.

Darvond: I'm not sure why you would, since Ultima 9 is a travesty.
I actually got interested to at least trying out Ultima 9 while playing Gothic earlier this year, as in some old reviews Gothic was called "what Ultima 9 should have been".

I haven't gotten around to it yet, but at least I already checked if there are some fan made mods I should use with U9...

Oh and I thought it was Ultima 8 which was the travesty? "What is this, Mario?"
I actually loved the snot out of Pagan, with its different schools of magic.
Those games Gothic 1,Ultima 8 Pagan,Ultima 9 Ascension were and still are from my favorites games.Fallout 1,2 also Eye of the beholder still are, then newer titles titan quest, sacred 1,Nox and others but right now i am interested if there is someone that played specifically ultima 9 with 1.18f or 1.19 patches and then ask them afterwards(if there is someone)what problems has encountered in different lands of the game(more with 1.18f)

dennisalex: Is anyone still playing ultima 9 ascension
I don't see why people wouldn't be playing this game considering it's a decent game. It just isn't the epic game, people wanted.
It seems that today epic game considered how ugly the monster are ,how bloody the fights are, cool graphics of no use just addind to massive gb on hard disk with no gameplay,no fantasy worlds, just a war movie in some ruined location and the most important how many visitors, likes, users have on internet.Sometimes neverending games just for leveling up.No search for a hidden item,a quest,a great evil-boss,to save the world.

Ultima 8 did contain some awful looking Super Mario RPG style isometric platforming. However, the game has been patched to correct that, and many other issues, rendering it more playable.
I for one love U9's dungeons, it's just that yes, the bugs and total disregard for the lore, not to mention the wretched VO really killed it for everyone...Plus, it was the last Ultima before the murder of a beloved franchise by EA. But a lot of the gameplay is still there to remind us where it should have been as a farewell for the series.

Glad to see others note that as well. Just finished playing AC syndicate, and it seems to be Ubisofts only means of making games, create big open area, then cut and paste the same chest/share/box etc. Hundreds of times across said map. It's funny walking around the London slums opening chests with hundreds of pounds in. Same with all open worlds, far cry (excluding the best and first one), all AC games, the middle earth games (hunting bleeding flowers all over), even dragons dogma (which I finally found all the gold coins, what a waste of time). Lack of inventiveness, and attempting to woo the mmo crowd is the problem.
Of course it seem that ac syndicate is good game but it needs 50 gb of hard drive.I like to have my whole games in at least 1 or two dvds and be independent from internet corporations that demand that if you want to finish install and play the game you must download their programs and register to them ,the companies that create the game and i dont know who else will demand my personal information to play a game. And i may play it for sometime until maybe finish it(or not)and then i remove it from the pc but all those registration and personal infomation will remain. And there is another thing that beside of the money you pay for the game a lot of people buy with real money something that they think it will help in the game. And if it not or start a new game all those extra money they spend are gone.Chaoitic and unexplainable things.
I have not personally played Ultima 9, but I have seen enough to warrant myself an opinion on the matter, I believe. Perhaps Ultima 9 is not the worst game in the world, but the reason everyone was so upset was because it was so far away from what made Ultima so popular. It just didn't have the passion behind it's development like 4-7 had. But that is kind of the curse of having a super critically acclaimed game- one-upping it is hard and stressful, and making something different will confuse and upset fans.
Unfortunately, what I see as the "Big 3" of the cRPG genre died out right when technology was getting good enough to make a truly amazing game. Might and Magic 9 was half-finished and rushed out by a greedy publisher, Ultima 9 didn't get the time and money that it deserved as well. But the last of the 3, Wizardry, did actually get a good final game. A really good game; Wizardry 8. That's what I'm talking about, it has the heart and feel of the Wizardry games, but it has graphics and interface that still make it fun to play today. I wish that the cRPG genre hadn't stagnated in the early 2000s, because we could've gotten some amazing gems. At least we got Morrowind!
Back to ultima 9 ascension i hope there is someone with the abilities, time and caring enough and make a good patch for this title and he believes that it worth it.Keep the good points of the game and rectify any flaws he encounters.I have made some pointers at earlier posts to take under consideration and the rest is to him/her.I for one believe that are a lot things in that game
that worth a lot.Somewhere i read that this game was ahead from its time but some reasons(i think first of all money)has left it
unedited i will say and thats why it needs some close attention still. It is an old game but wins many new games by default

Off you go then. Some tips, learn the file formats, how to hack dlls and other binary files, maybe some art upgrading to up res the graphics. Once you have that then it's simply a matter of going through all the files, patching, up-resing, maybe recompilation of various components. Probably a good idea to set aside a year or so for this to get an alpha patch out.
