Well, the system was used for the World Cup in 1986, 1990 and 1994. But yeah, it is unfair, and I still say that 24 teams is too many in itself for the Euro.

As for Portugal wanting to lose to play Slovenia and leave us with Netherlands, it was quite obvious to anyone thinking about it, but they were pretty smart in the match, someone just watching, without knowing what that result would lead to, wouldn't have really considered it fishy. And CR7 didn't get the memo, he was in it to win it, might have even risked a red if he wouldn't have been taken out when he was.

Teams from group A have only a vague idea which results they may need to qualify for the next round as 3rd of the group, while teams from teams from group E and F exacly know the points and goal differences of the teams from the other groups and can play accordingly.

So you always have a disadvantage when you are in one of the early groups.
Another unfairness is that some countries which finished 1st in their group, will play with the 2nd of another group, while other 1sts will play with the 3rds (which are theoretically more inferior). This isn't right. Since always a 1st played with another group's 2nd, that's the proper one. By putting a 1st to play against a 3rd then, theoretically always, you're giving this 1st an "easier" opponent to proceed farther in the tournament.

And, if real, what a masterful plan it would have been. Soil the national colors by throwing a match on an Euro and invite the ire, and mockery, of 10M+ people. For what ? To set themselves up against a team Portugal lost to, when was it, two months back ?

Also, lol at the notion that anyone other than Ronaldo "issues memos".

Champs, of course not, but in terms of who we'd be more likely to defeat to advance one more round, you look way tougher than Slovenia.

As for Italy, just makes it even worse that they knocked out Croatia the way they did. They had nothing...

Almost two down just then as well! Yes commentator "sloppy" is exactly the term!

Wouldn't necessarily say that it was exactly undeserved for England, but definitely sad for Slovakia...
