So I love GOG and I wanne support this forever, its amazing.

Currently i bought a few old games and some rather new games too.

My main issue is that i bought multiple old games that do not work out of the box which really sucks..

I expect a game to work when i buy it right? So yeah this is how i usually go about it but

since these games are old and the resources to make these work on newer systems etc is a pain.. So i SORTA understand but dont really think its ideal to do this..

Eitherway I went on trying to trouble shoot etc.

I could not get Blood 2, both Krush Kill games to work. I made Dungeon Keeper 1 work because it works out the box but the HD mode makes the game unplayable because itll go to 5fps...

I look and look and can only try for hours and hours to fix this but i get no where usually.

I guess my question is why the hell i should buy these games and not pirate them since they dont even work and i pretty much wasted money and hours on this all for nothing.

Can anyone understand my frustration?

Another question.. can i ever expect GOG to fix these things ever? I understand if itll take long but will they EVER do this? Do they have a "fix" list or something?

I dunno.. frustrated and pissed, annoyed and so on.. fucking sucks and all this does is it makes me wanne stick with Steam who isnt really any better at this in terms of old games too.. but atleast ill get to have all my games at one place then. :(

Just looked back at the Dungeon Keeper 1 thing, very old post, posted something in it, someone had a easy fix, not 100% though but it works.. WHY IS THAT not on a sticky note in DK1 section?? Here is the post

Solution i found - Try opening the dosboxDK.conf file in notepad and change the setting : cycles=8000 ( I believe that's the default) to cycles=max . It's about a third of the way down. That should fix the fps issues you are having. end of post.

Why the fuck isnt this a sticky? sorry im hella mad and its nothing personal, spend so many hours in trying different engines and doing KeeperFX...

Problem is they have to use a third party dos emulator called dosbox to run certain games like in the case of Dugeon Keeper 1, and while DK1 did have a windows version, it fails to run on Windows 7 and above, so you have to resort to Dosbox or KeeperFX to play it,

In order to run Blood or DK in windows natively the source code to those games will have to be released, but its a total luck based draw if those are still around.

Well, Blood 2 is particulalry difficult to work on modern systems.

There are zillions of modern PC configurations. GOG tries their best and offers a complete refund if the game is not made to work. Not sure what more you expect.

There is nothing to "fix". GOG can't change the games themselves, even if they had the sourcecode, which they don't it would be difficult, and when it comes to configurations for DOSBox and the like, they put the one most likely to work on most machines. The configuration that works for you might not work for someone else.

Because there are hundreds of different problems and solutions? If every solution is made sticky the whole front page would be sticky.

Hmm.. Wouldnt it be ideal to have a sticky called "multiple solutions CAN be found here.. Then you LIST ALL the possible solutions there are so new incoming people will literally only have to look at one place NO ?

I can understand your frustration, however PC gaming isn't always as easy as "straight out of the box" given how many combinations of hardware and software there are. It's not a "one size fits all" thing like console gaming can be, especially with old games.

Fortunately GOG now has a money-back guarantee - if you can't get a game to work, and you go back and forth with Support for a little while trying to get it running but it still doesn't work, you get your money back. (You have 30 days since buying a game to file a Support ticket.)

Unfortunately you can't really count on GOG to always fix things because they're often swamped with various things, and it may not be worth the time and money spent by GOG to fix games that aren't bestsellers. And the GOG staff can't be searching all the forums all the time looking for solutions.

So it's really up to you. If "all my games in one place" is the most important thing to you, then you may have to stick with Steam.

In case you aren't aware, GOG's focus isn't really on "Good Old Games" (nor "old games that run on modern machines") anymore, though obviously they still do some of that because that's where their reputation still remains.

I admit I didn't read his weirdly-spaced complaint thoroughly, but I'm reasonably sure no part of his rant had to do with this.

It does look like GOG made the right move by investing in dgVoodoo. Now thevonly question is when will they start shipping the games with it.

Treat it as a learning exercise. I relaise that nowadays everyone wants the press Galaxy button play game console mentality, but knowing what is going on can help in many ways. Learning even some basics can help. Simple rules of thumb such as Never install anything into Windows folders - you wouldn't believe how problems this fixes for instance.

Anyways, its nothing different to new releases, most of them don't work either, by deliberately being abandoned (or released as fully working) after making money in InDev, or just by being utter garbage development or console port. So if you want the easy life, get a console, if you want a bit more Google searches, game specific forums, Moddb, Nexus, and various other sites are out there to help.

Yeah i understand. It's nothing crazy too, like i got the games of really cheap and just kinda nice to have them. So i usually download them all and put em in my NAS and have them for like keeping for whatever happens. Maybe some day itll work out etc.

Well, the "It's safe and convenient" factor is certainly an argument in favor of buying instead of pirating. For people like me who are not confortable messing with computers and programs, having something that works right out of the box is worth every eurocent.

ya without at least the OS information and even better the "basic" hardware configuration (in the sense is it a rare laptop chipset with a weird onboard graphic or is it rather straightforward mainstream hardware) it's kinda hard to help with the problems nor to assess if the OP is just really unlucky with many games somehow not running for him or just bought them for non supported OS / violating basic hardware requirements

I just wanted to say that I could not get Blood 2 to run consistently EVER even back in the day when it came out, so it is not GOG's fault :)
