"Games will be accessed by streaming technology, so we don't need hardware intermediaries in between the two."

"If you and I want to play Battlefield 12 against each other, we'll just jump into a game via whatever monitor we happen to have in our homes. It'll be on a chip, rather than in a box."

sounds great at first. but if you think through it, streaming is the shittiest form of drm and some/all streaming games won't ever see a drm-free release.

hopefully there may be no ea in the future

thats not necessarily better. imagine a fusion between ea and activision in the future. no ea, just something much more horrifying.

So, what, no more mods planned for games? Everything needs to be on THEIR server side? That's terrifying. Please don't make the world Battle.net.
Rip nes-like consoles with golden zelda cartridge. I miss you dearly.
Wet dream of any publisher. No more selling through shops or downloads. Every purchase (right to play) goes through their pockets.
Sad part is that is the future. Look at the movie section and the hugh success of netflix and co..buying boxed movies is
dying.

Honestly despite being a great boon for gaming in certain areas sometimes the internet has been a negative influance on video games.

Online DRM, Multiplayer focused at the expense of offline Single Player, long downloads for digital games, and now Streaming and besides Streaming is just another word for Always Online DRM.

What ever happened to just going in a store and buying a game and go home and play it

Its conveniance at the expense of practicality.

I'll drink to that.
Conditional, expensive and controled renting is their most dear dream. Nothing new. Even Larian talked about that.

Yeah, I agree with everything you said pretty much.

This wasn't a hard prediction to make, frankly, it was an easy guess that in the future game consoles would just be a harder sell and would be outpaced by computer and mobile tech to the point that they wouldn't serve a purpose.

But, I would say that no one will want to play a Battlefield 6 much less a 12.
Modding is what keeps games alive and thriving, games that are over a decade old. And with Ubisoft, Bethesda and other companies, they release games that need patching in order to run correctly.

Let's ask a question. If Skyrim was stream-only, would it be nearly as popular as it is? And if not how much of a difference did mods make? (I ask mods since you wouldn't ever get mods on a fixed server).

I'm still waiting for the promised paperless office, I've already thrown out all my paper and printer in excited anticipation.

This is what we call predictive programming, kids. They sell you ON the product, then they sell you the product. They've been prepping you on the 'next big thing' since the first Arab started selling wheels in Marrakesh.
