Hi everyone, I would have a problem on my windows 10. I can not install this fabulous game on my PC. When I start the installation CD and click on install, nothing happens. I tried to set up the installation with compatibility, nothing. Does anyone have a solition?

This game, which is not on this store, as released for windows 98, so is a very old game. It's most likely the installer is 16 bit, so won't run on modern systems. I don't have the game so can't check, but it may be you can just copy all the files to a folder on your machine, then try running the exe. You may also need patches or a nocd replacement if the game has drm. You might also need dosbox to emulate the game. Can't help with specifics as don't have the game, you can try here:

Thanks so much. I do not know if it can serve, I do not know why, but BlueStacks blocked a process that was needed to start the installation. Closed BlueStacks, I could safely install the game without problems.
I never cease to be amazed at how strange windows and programs are ........

This reminds me...I may have this very game buried in my basement...I should reclaim it and try it out!

I own this game and windows 7 so I can try to check this tomorrow or at the weekend if you like.

Edit: I just installed it fine on my win7/64 - now I only need to add some runnable quicktime and see if it runs...to be continued.

I like the x-files but honestly in hindsight the game is not so great at all. Afair it was more interactive movie than game but I will vote for it to help others.

Quick Time 7 worked fine. Game is running flawlessly on my Win7/64 with GTX960.

And NOW I noticed that the problem already has been solved. Note to myself READ the thread before you reply ;)

It's a nice story in the game - it plays just like an episode and all orignal actors are in it. And you are right season 9 - especially the great "finale" was awful.

I installed QT version 7.6.6 (via QuickTime Alternative) for this game, you might try it too. ;)

edit: damn, seems you already found a working version. :D

Yeah, would probably work fine as well (did only try the original version now). Actually I am surprised how flawlessly the game is running.

Well, it may not be the best game, but the wishlist has over 500 votes. That says something enough that the game is worth a re-release, especially since some of the classic titles here are already very, very niche, with some better than others. I'd still play it if they re-released it on GOG.

Dosbox is an emulator, true its primary focus is to emulate dos based games, but win 98 can be run with it it as well, so can other operating systems for the same period.

Sure, but DOSbox doesn't come with a (legal) version of Windows 98.

My advise would be to install XP Mode in/with VirtualBox (to play 16 bit Windows games or games with 16 bit installers). ;-) Indeed, getting old games to run without GOG doing the work isn't always easy.

10 was bad, but I still think 9 was the absolute rock bottom for X-Files. The terrible finale, the way they killed off the Lone Gunmen, just the all-round suckiness of Monica Reyes... that season hurt. Still, it's like picking between being kicked in the butt and or in the nuts.

But I'm happy to report season 11 is surprisingly good. Not "old X-Files at it's best" good, but still enough to make me really glad they brought the show back, even if it took them a while to get back on track.
