HypersomniacLive: Not sure if this the right thread to ask, but here's something that confuses me.

I've seen a few posts from native English speakers from the US use "that" where I would and think they should use "than".
Example (emphasis mine):

[...] the logic of the models is eventually revealed to be more sophisticated that Iniurfas Mark IV = scum.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Non-native English speakers that use US English also seem to do this.
Example (emphasis mine):

[...] who have more experience that me.

HypersomniacLive: Is this a thing in US English when making comparisons? I don't think I've come across it before, and it does sound strange to me.
It's just an error, like Grargar said.
What are some of the better 4x games? I like HoMM, MoM, Alpha Centauri, and AoW.

Master of Orion 1+2 is supposedly great, but I haven't played it yet.

Nor have I, but I got my eye on it, maybe I'll get it. Any input on it from experienced players?

Think I'm in the minority here but I much prefer the simpler MOO1 over MOO2. The first game feels like I'm playing it while the second feels more like work. On the upside, it's a two-for-one price so you can try both and decide for yourself. Definitely worth consideration if you enjoy turn-based 4x games.

the real question is when will it end?

MoO2 is *the* old-school space 4x. Galactic Civilizations 2 is *the* sequel. If you're only going to play two space-based 4x games, those are the two you need to play. I really like several others, but props where they're due; MoO2 and GalCiv2 are what you need.

For fantasy 4x, of course obviously Master of Magic (which is mechanically almost indistinguishable from MoO2, by the way. Since you said you like MoM, I can say with some confidence that you should enjoy MoO2). There's a new game out called Worlds of Magic which aims to be the spiritual successor to MoM, and so far seems to be succeeding. Elemental: Fallen Enchantress is also an excellent game in the genre. There are of course many others, as well. But I think WoM and FE will suit you for the fantasy 4x.

I believe these are just typos for "than". The mafia games (from which you bring the examples) are especially notorious for having typos because it is disallowed to edit past posts, leaving no recourse for hiding past indiscretions.

EDIT: Grargar has already made the same point.

Grargar: I think it's a simple typo, just like using "then" instead of "than". :P
It also doesn't help that it's prohibited to edit your posts in a mafia game, even for simple typos.

At least, that's what I understand, as a non-native speaker.

I'm aware of the "no editing" rule, I was just wondering if these were something more than mere typos, because I vaguely recall seeing this also in a couple of other posts of yours, outside that thread. And with you being a novelist... well, you get my drift.

Thanks everyone for clearing it up for me, had started to worry my English was not up to date.
I would be lost without the "edit" button!
I cannot write even the simplest of the sentences without an error or at least a typo... I am the "Most Wanted" in the English Grammar Nazi's blacklist! XD

Oh, I think you made a mistake. You're not supposed to avoid sleeping until after the sale starts! =P
During the 8th age of the Klannelin, Verash overthrew Hont with the help of the Shivans that Maelnar had summoned from the Flosgael. But I didn't get why Chardun allowed the Shivans to raise the Hnuc'h when the D'loten had already promised Verash their legions of Xucliphs, given how the Hnuc'h was bound to the Dalnaar through the Staplian pledge of the 5th age of the Fannaeltur. How could the Ystre let the Flosgael open, knowing from the Xyr Coming that the Daar were bound to the Uterrim ? And why didn't it trigger the splintening of the Uterrim, as Djun hadn't retrieved the Falgystor from the Donnac yet (but only after the second crowning of Stuban). Did Chardun have further motivations, and how could Valnae have been unaware of it (as they had both shared the Rannerj) ? But hadn't she seen her own transdejantion when she had peered through the Klog Stal of the G'rub Klopin's Klartnak Golographryst ?

Or am I nitpicking ?
Do highly muscled abs serve any real purpose? With muscled arms you can lift heavy things. With muscled legs you can run better. Is there any common activity that uses abs regularly, or is it only that they look good? The only activities I can think of are belly-dancing (maybe dancing in general?), and flipping back up after having been knocked to the ground in a martial arts fight.

Abdominal muscles: A large group of muscles in the front of the abdomen that assists in the regular breathing movement and supports the muscles of the spine while lifting and keeping abdominal organs such as the intestines in place. Abdominal muscles play a key role in exercises such as "sit-ups." They are informally called the "abs".
