Today, with the steam sales, I noticed than Danmaku Unlimited 2 is discounted at 1€ so selling a few cards might get you able to buy it.....

Something tells me a couple of jokers wouldn't fill the bill.
Another day, another great shmup on Steam. Dariusburst just came out, and although it's full priced, the sheer amount of content makes it worth it (in addition to being incredibly polished and unique in its presentation).

And, of course, Degica is planning on releasing the soundtrack down the line as well.
While GOG remains mainly shmup free my steam account drowns in an overaboundance. I'm still occupied with Mushihimesma, what does Degica expect of me? Not that this release is anything bad, it's the opposite.

On a side note: I am always surprised what amazing visuals shmups can have when seeing newer releases.

I've been playing Dariusburst on projector with a 120 inch screen and a pretty decent sound system. It's completely ridiculous how intense this game is, and how much it gains from being massive and loud. You can really tell this was designed as a showpiece for Taito's most ridiculous arcade cabinet.
And Cave is to reveal their next PC port for Steam in about 3 weeks. They just keep coming.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that! I'm guessing it's going to be Deathsmiles, DDP DFK or SDOJ. Cave did the 360 ports of those themselves so they'll be the easiest for them to bring over, and Deathsmiles is their best-selling title while the DoDonPachi series is their most notorious and iconic.

Man, for a dead genre nobody cares about it sure does seem to be getting a lot of high-quality, well-respected releases lately.

And I'm sure Degica would be just as happy to bring the game to GOG as they would Mushihime, if GOG would actually let them.

Frankly, I'm just done buying anything on GOG until we get something new from them on this front. While I like the DRM-free thing, it doesn't make much of a difference when they refuse to sell the stuff I'm actually interested in.
found this on the Steam forums:
Transition 2015

my japanese sucks but the summarisation is that they are seeing the PC markt as the new "Star" for the declining shmup genre and they want to transition to the PC markt now, (?after the declining of consoles and arcades?)

participating are CAVE, G.Rev, Qute, Treasure, H2 and Triangle Service. Held in Tokyo at the 26.12, where Cave will btw reveal their next PC port.

Really, GOG, wake up.

I'm going to be especially pissed if the next game is DoDonPachi if GOG continues to snub Cave/Dejica.

Also I really want to play Darius Burst. God damn you piss me off sometimes GOG.

To look on what limited bright side there is, apparently GOG just added the publisher of Raiden IV. So that'd be something at least.

If it's any consolation, I've been playing it on a friend's machine, and I am very disappointed so far. Here's a copy paste of my thoughts from system11:

Feels weird to say this for a shmup, but Chronicle and CS modes are so repetitive, with short bursts of doing the same thing over and over again. Stages are half-baked, the zako swarms plentiful but not engaging. Arcade modes feel better, but are way too short. IMHO, this game could be made vastly better by removing all that content, and presenting a single, longer, and more carefully designed arcade mode that accommodates all those gorgeous boss fights, in a more traditional Darius/shmup manner.

That OST is out of this world, though.

I played Darius Gaiden for the first time only last month, and G-Darius last week, so there is no nostalgia tainting my opinion. I think Dariusburst isn't half the game those earlier titles are. And I find it hard to convince myself that this is the best release of the year as a single stage of Eschatos has more thought put into it than the entirety of the CS mode.
I'm going straight back to my quest to master the older games after posting this. But would still buy if GOG gets it, if just to show I mean business :)

Well I've already emulated the original PSP version. It's definitely no G-Darius, but I didn't think it was particularly bad in any way other than its lack of length.

Azhdar: Ikaruga and Sine Mora
I'm at a loss as to why Sine Mora isn't here already. given the number of Kalypso published titles GOG has.

Once again it seems to come back to "GOG are jerks to shooter fans".

If your only complaint about Dariusburst on the PSP was its lack of length, the new one is going to be right up your alley.

I can't really argue with anything Onarliog says, but I don't put the same weight on those issues that he does. I enjoy the variety of ships and all the different ways they allow you to approach boss fights, which is where the game really shines.
