the mini nes is standalone no internet no extra games
what you see is what you get

Nintendo’s teeny, tiny mini NES announced this morning is a standalone device that won’t connect to the internet and does not support physical media of any kind, which means those 30 included games are it, Nintendo of America told Polygon today. But if you’re okay with that, there’s a lot to be excited about.

The $59.99 Nintendo Classic console will include 30 original games (listed here) as well as a replica of the original controller. You can buy a second for $9.99.

Here’s a rundown of the frequently asked questions that Nintendo was willing to answer so far:

Polygon: Will this play NES carts?

Nintendo: No. The console is a standalone device, and does not use physical media of any kind.

Will there be anyway for Nintendo to sell or add additional games to the system down the line?

No. The console is a standalone device, so it cannot connect to the internet or any external storage devices. The 30 games included with the system were chosen to provide a wide variety of top-quality, long-lasting game-play experiences.

What sort of storage does it use?

We aren’t discussing technical specifications. However, it does not connect to any external storage devices.

Is this running via an emulator?

We aren’t discussing technical specifications.

How will saving work?

Each game has multiple suspend points, so you can start where you left off at a later time.

Will it support a video emulation mode like scan lines or crt emulation?

We will confirm these details later.

What are its dimensions and weight?

We aren’t discussing technical specifications, but it is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.

What outputs does it have beyond HDMI?

The console outputs video only via HDMI.

Does it support expanded memory?

No.

Does it have a USB port?

Technically, yes, but that port is only used to power the system with the included AC adapter.

Will it support other NES controllers like the original, Nintendo remakes or wireless controllers?

In addition to the NES Classic Controller, the Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro are also compatible with the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition. Both can be plugged directly into the console; however, when using two controllers, one of them must be the NES Classic Controller.

The new NES Classic Controller has a different connector than the original NES controllers and accessories, so they are not interchangeable.

Are there plans for coming out with other mini systems like the SNES?

We have nothing to announce at this time.

Do you have to blow on it to get it to work?

Some things are best left in the ’80s!

Some good games in there.
I wonder if that version of Donkey Kong is the same as the gameboy version.
If so I might get it just for that.

im rather surprised they got capcom and konami in on this
thats some good games in there

hopefully it wil be less then 99 euro cause otherwise its a bit steep
Tecmo Bowl?

Take my money! :D

I actually could give two shits about the rest of those titles. The Castelvania games and G&G are fucking impossible. :P
Interesting. I missed out on the NES as a kid, we were a Commodore family. Might just pick this up to fill some gaps in my gaming history, though I own quite some of those games for virtual console on my 3DS already.
Weird, virtually a Nintendo plug and play. Not a bad selection of games, but I see no way of adding more games in the future or playing the old carts... Will be interesting to see what the internal hardware actually is. Probably a pure emulation route, but one can be hopeful that it is not.
Would have liked Temco Wrestling rather than Bowlng, but other than that I want one. :-)
I probably wouldn't bother for NES games.. but holy shit if they did this for SNES (with the right games) I would buy it in a second...

Cool until you realize it's just an emulator in a fancy box.
Neat.
It's of no use to people with either of these things:

NES console

Virtual console or even hell

An NES clone system.

According to a German Eurogamer article, its US price will be roughly $60.

none of those have an hdmi upscaler though
and hopefully there wil be more games to come
Pretty cool. I will probably buy one.

Hopefully, the European one will include 60 Hz versions of the games.
