Silence sits black at the bottom of a bag in a barrel resting on the side of the road
It meditates among the trash and glass,
It is released from the patience of a lake,
It creeps through the cracks of a conversation,
It is caught and lost in vibration, cast beneath the ocean,
And it eventually rests on your unexpecting lips -
It steps out from the shadows, and straddles the ears, balanced for a second against all noise

Silence has always been special for me To start simply: I was raised Quaker, a very small sect of Quakerism, actually, that makes up something like 9% of all Quakers. Sunday "meeting for worship" is an hour-long silent meditation (instead of a preacher or minister or whoever else being the conduit to god, Quakers believe there is no need for a go-between, and if you sit in silence, that of god within you will "speak" to you.)

The power of silence is awesome. Silence in a group, the power increases with the size of the group. Because when there's silence a different sense starts to take over, and internal sense, and the energy is obvious.

I recommend to you all: sit in silence with yourselves for 10 minutes. This doesn't mean with the TV muted, or typing on the computer in the quiet. This means stillness and absolute silence. The sound of your foot moving a millimeter across the carpet should sound like a pile of rustling leaves. SILENCE. It's powerful.

I also recommend trying this with a group, or even just 1 other person! You can look at each other, you don't have to be motionless, just silent. Go to a quiet room. Turn off the motors. Feel it. It's awesome.

There used to be this button, I need to get another one, it said:

"In case of emergency, please be quiet - I am a quaker"

Silence is an ultimate comfort for me. If I couldn't have silence at times, I'd probably stab out my ears.

This giveaway is to receive a copy of the game: SILENCE.

This game keycode was not purchased by me, but by a fellow extremely generous and thoughtful person who has permitted me to pass it on. Thanks to them for it!!!

To enter:

Tell me what silence means to you, what it does for you, your experiences with it, anything really related that seems relevant to share, as much as you want, I'll love to read it. Good luck!

disqualifyers: rudeness, disrespect, or antagonism of any sort, scammers and spammers, chickens (sorry chickens, it's just not a game for you) - anything else I desire at my discretion
Silence for me does not mean absence of noise but state of calm, little bit of noise can be found everywhere. Silence is when I relax from hard day, alone with my thoughts and without (too much) interference.

I used to work as a journalist, and I have longed so many times for a moment of silence, without having to search for a story or trying to be simultaneously at few places at once because my now ex bosses have thought and still probably think that this is possible. I like to talk very much and I enjoy social life and do various activities surrounded by people but it is nice once in a while take care of myself in silence. Now I'm not working this job anymore and I'm very happy, perhaps now I have too much silence which is not good also. :)

My ideal silence is when you hear some wind between trees, chirp of birds or sound of waves hitting the shore, you are alone with nature, you are relaxed and focused, you "talk" in your thoughts with God's creation as part of nature not some "higher" human begin. I usually achieve this while I run in the nature.

Damn, I knew Quake was popular, but I had no idea there were entire sects devoted to it.

Just kidding, just kidding, please don't take offence.

Unless I have already disqualified myself, I'd like to be in. I can't really say much about silence myself (I just enjoy it in the general sense of enjoying a lazy moment of doing nothing, being bothered by nothing, just chilling out), but what you said immediately made me think of this scene from my favourite TV series ever.
OP I've never thought about silence as a 'thing'. I do suffer from stress and panic though so maybe it's something I could try. Too many thoughts stress me so maybe meditation could help. Exxercise usually helps but I have a cold on my lungs right now so can't.

I've spent much of my life alone, which was depressing but also liberating. Now I'm settled down and we have a 2yo, with a baby due this month I don't think silence will be a thing. Maybe when they sleep....

Please count me in.

Thanks for sharing your experience with silence, very interesting. The closest I can come to silence is the time I spend in the woods. When I was younger it was about spending time with friends and going after wildlife. Now it is about being in the woods and enjoying being part, even for a short time, of nature. After all the stress of work and life I really look forward to the time I spend just being in the woods. Of course being with friends is still a great thing.
Hey cheers for the giveaway and i'm in.

Nice insight into your special connection to silence!

Silence for me does not have as a big meaning as it does for you i guess but i can't neglect being "influenced" and affected by it as well and feel the effects in one way or another.

While i was living in shared appartments or together with partners with absolutely no issues at all (so yes i like shared appartments and moving in with lifepartners) i somehow still also totally cheerish living alone as well - i guess mostly because of moments of silence which can be very calming and relaxing especially after long days - just being kinda in "control" of the entire "audio" arround you somehow has a very calming effect - in general it is also that way that all the flats i have choosen so far in my life were "silent" as well (meaning not in noisy environments and having thick walls and stuff so you wouldn't hear random noise/neighbors all the time) - so guess there actually is some preference for silence sometimes after all.

Regarding "using" silence well what i do most of the time before falling asleep (after reading a book or watching movie or whatever) i take like a 10-15minute window where i just lie there reflecting and collecting my thoughts (without already trying to fall asleep - so rather a focused thinking b4 actually trying to sleep) and this actually works quite well for me - afterwards i fall asleep quite fast and i also think it helps to achieve some kind of "peace" - for me it's totally from a non religious perspective though and rather a selfawareness/selffeedback approach. I also usually sleep like 1 day outside or on a terrace when i take a vacation on a beach with the ocean as the only sound - this has quite a huge effect on me as well.
I'm in. My thoughts on it are the following:

Shhh...
I can't stand silence although I often long for it.
Here's a little riddle for you all:
What's so fragile that if you so much as utter its name, it breaks?
