RWarehall: But for one of them to specifically omit Win 8 in the system specs while mentioned in the other, probably means it DOES NOT work reliably in Win 8 or 10. Clicking on a few other old games on the site lists whether they are Win 10 compatible, so I would worry whether either game works with Win 10.
It's a valid concern, but all it really means is that no one has tested it. You may be unwilling to take that chance and that's fair enough.
RWarehall: Also, I do not see liquidsnakehpks stating anything in any post about their availability elsewhere. And there is a big difference between games listing specs "on the box" bought from Ebay or Amazon vs specs listed in an online store...
This entire conversation is you replying to a post I made that was addressed to liquidsnakehpks. If you look at the post I was replying to, they say "sigh i guess we have to go down the path of just lets play to remember the game." as if the game is completely unavailable. I replied pointing out the earlier post saying they were on FireFlower games, you replied to that and here we are.
RWarehall: The fact that FireFlower didn't bother to update the specs even with Win 10 released for 3 years, says something.
Not really, that sort of thing comes from the publisher on most stores and as we have established, the publisher has abandoned the game. GOG is somewhat unique in that they directly support the games they sell, thus the supported OS and things are a statement of what they support the game on and thus it gets updated. Absence of a particular OS on GOG is a lot more meaningful than it is on any other store, since it means GOG tried it and decided they couldn't support it.
RWarehall: Anyway, I don't see your point in arguing over this. LiquidSnake asked for help finding the IP owner. Presumably because it would be nice to see the rest of the series here and set up to run on modern systems. Insisting people should just buy some old legacy version off an obscure site isn't very helpful.
I wasn't looking for an argument, I was simply pointing out to them that the games are available for purchase, so let's-plays are not the only option.
There's no such thing as an 'old legacy version' if there is no newer version available. The games are what they are, and that's what we'd get here if they came out here. The only difference would be GOG offering technical support (which I don't deny would be great). It's certainly not
unhelpful to point out that they can be bought when the OP appears to be under the misapprehension that they cannot.
RWarehall: I imagine the rights lie somewhere between Anuman and Nordic as Nordic seemed to buy all the Adventure Company assets in 2011, the developer of the last 2 games. Whether Anuman holds some of the trademarks or distribution rights still is a question.
That does seem like a good lead.
