The city where adventuring never stops.

Did you hear? Neverwinter Nights Diamond is FREE for the next 48 hours! It's the game that first introduced Bioware's powerful Aurora Engine and is still considered one of the most rich and well-realized RPGs set in the Forgotten Realms. The Diamond edition already includes the original campaign plus three official expansions released by Bioware, offering hours upon hours of old-school gameplay for D&D fans.

What you may not have heard, is that thanks to the versatility of the Aurora Engine and the game's devoted community, there are tons of cool fan-made mods out there that you can download and enjoy for free. Some take you to entirely different areas, some offer thrilling new adventures, some tweak the game's feel or gameplay, but they all serve to add incredible value to the game and help you customize or prolong your stay in Neverwinter Nights.

Here are some of our favorites:

1. The Aielund Saga
A truly epic adventure full of twists and turns set in the troubled Kingdom of Aielund that is under attack both from outside and inside forces.
Our own member Lilura has a very neat guide on how to get this mod up and running.

2. Elegia Eternum
Narrative-focused mod with a rather somber, occasionally twisted story and esoteric ambiance. A bit on the short side but with a lasting effect, due to the intense drama.
You can grab it from here.

3. The Rose of Eternity
Another story-heavy module that tells the heart-wrenching story of a timeless being, held prisoner in a mystical garden. The first two chapters are available over here with the creator moving on to the Dragon Age engine for the story's conclusion.

4. The Bastard of Kosigan
A gritty adventure set in an alternate history medieval Europe, starring a young man who exiles himself from Kosigan to avoid his villainous uncle.
Lilura once again has posted some pretty useful instructions on how to use this mod.

But these are just a handful of top shelf mods for Neverwinter Nights Diamond in a sea of great content that's just begging to be explored. And who better to help you navigate it than our awesome GOG.com community?
So those among you who have already played and enjoyed some of the high-quality mods out there, go ahead and share your best finds with us!

Neverwinter Nights Diamond is free until December 3, 10:59 AM UTC.
Ive got Nellise, a cleric and Dante, a ranger/fighter as companions in Aielund Saga. Im a little confused as to what armor to equip them. They both have light, medium, and heavy armor feats so Im rocking them with heavy armor but my cleric has virtually no carrying capacity leading me to wonder if I should change to a different armor set. Is heavy armor affecting their skills or stats in a negative way? I dont know, my cleric seems to heal me just fine and cast other spells.
It's the 'collect more shit and spend more time in the inventory mode!' Just what every old school shooter fan wants!
You want to be able to carry all that sweet heroes loot. Yes. And being a relative newcomer sometimes Im not sure what to get rid of so I may keep too much stuff. For instance Im not sure if Im gonna stick with heavy armor so Im carrying around some spare light and medium. Also a few weapons as Im not sure about those either. Ive got a couple magic bags to reduce some weight of course.

Is the Inn where I spawned in the first town a good place to store some stuff? Ive got some stolen goods in there for now just to see if it disappears or not. Not sure if safe containers or not.

By the way, anyone know where to sell stolen merch?

Was this meant to be posted in the Shadow Warrior 2 DLC release thread? =)

Lol. Yep. I done fucked up.
high rated
For players new and old, I suggest grabbing the "Henchmen Inventory & Battle AI mod" addon which makes the companions both more useful and bearable. You won't know how you ever played without it.

I also suggest learning to use the console and customizing companion characters further by modifying their starting stats to align with the use you intend for them.

For example, I often use Xanos as a barbarian tank, but his 12 starting strength runs counter to this. A little magic via the console gives him a reasonable starting array.

The console can be handy for hiccups in the game. As an example--and I expect I may not be the only one experiencing this--using Mystra's ring consumes ALL focus crystals in my character's possession, rather than just one. (This also happens with belladona's later on when consumed for another reason.) Using the console can alleviate this issue by spawning in the lost components.

Finally, for those who are really interested in tweaking things, grab two other tools: the CODI editor and the NWN Explorer. You'll want the explorer to extract .2da files, and the CODI editor to modify them. (You could use notepad but it's possible to mess up formatting, and thereby break the file, that way.) Place the modified .2da file into your override directory, and voila!

What does this do? It allows you to edit things that are otherwise "hard coded." For example, my most recent character is an illusionist, but I wanted necromancy to be the opposition school rather than enchantment. I extracted the spellschools.2da, changed the number for the opposition school in the file and bopped the file into the override directory. Easy! Returning things to normal is as easy as removing the file from the override folder.

This is one of the truly best video games made for the reasons listed above. (And more!) Have fun!

Crowbar1127: I literally bought this game less than 12 hours ago any chance i can get a refund?
heresy!
So... almost a year later than the last post, but who knows, maybe someone will like my suggestions.
Tortured Hearts 1&2 - HUGE modules. Really, and I'm talking Baldur's Gate huge. Lots of quests, lots of areas, and henchmen from every available core class with their own personality and popularity system (they get to like-hate you through your actions).

Penultima series - A really fun series. You will laugh a lot, it is basically a parody world, but when you get to the end you realize it was actually very, very deep, with lots of emotion. From the same guy as Elegia Aeternum, so those who played that might know what I mean when I say this series truly has a heart.
