idbeholdME: CK 2 for free? Nice, all that's left is the 28 pieces of DLC :P
CK II has been free to play since 2019.
high rated
Sorry, Paradox, but your DLC madness is too much for my brain. I'm a fan of grand strategies, but it's getting ridiculous.

Ixamyakxim: QUESTION - can anyone recommend DLCs? Are there any that are "must play" or that add features / UI improvements etc to the base game that when they came out, people just HAD to have them?
I think someone asked that previously in this thread.
Very cool (again ;). I always wondered why Knights of Honor wasn't here.

Crusader Kings 2 - 1751 votes
Knights of Honor - 1066 votes

Arsenal of Democracy + Academia : School Simulator - 365 votes (combined)
Great to see Knights of Honor here, even though it's probably obsolete now (if any ever is among GOGers) it can probably provide good time to those who are waiting for the price of KoH2 to go down. :D

Ancient-Red-Dragon: As someone who has never followed CK 2, my questions are:

1. How come you can only play to 1453? Seems like it would be a better game if it let you play longer too.

2. What DLCs, exactly, does one need in order to make it be the best version of the game?
Because thats the beginning of the renaissance which is covered in EU3/4 - you can actually export your savegame over too.

As to DLCs, you pretty much want the expansions to make the most of things as some features are locked to them and you need them to play certain nations.
Old gods is a great one to start with though.

Edit:
you can actually do a whole run of CK2 to EU3/4 to Victoria 2/3 to HOI 3/4 to Stellaris (likely requires some modding).

Probably Knights of Honor II is the superior game (not tried it). Same formula, modern gameplay and graphics, but the prequel is an amazing game in its own right, even the 2D graphics are polished and atractive.

About Arsenal of Democracy. Can anyone tell me the main differences between this and Darkest Hour? Could it be said that are redundant? Different enough?

Knights of Honor 1 is more casual and relaxing to play than Knights of Honor 2. The AI in 2 loves to gang-bang you to death. lol If you want simple, fun game go with 1

Actual free game, not "free if you subscribe to our newsletter"? Yay!
"31 dlc", nevermind.
Over $100 for the "complete" version? And that is on sale? Yikes! Where is the exit, cause I'm out of here.
FYI to staff: none of the Paradox games have dedicated discussion forums (or at least links to the forums on the game pages.
FYI to staff: some of the DLC still have the Mac and Linux support icons despite you and Paradox, seemingly, giving the middle finger to Mac and Linux GOG users.
Crusader Kings II has had the multiplayer removed, what is it with GOG accepting cut-down versions of games. I'm really beginning to rethink my aversion to Steam because this is happening way too often.
And still no Empire of Sin from Paradox. *sigh*
I'm not going to rebuy all those DLCs on here, especially with the Steam version being DRM-free (albeit without an installer), but here's hoping for CK3 and Vic3 on GOG.

It appears porting multiplayer to Galaxy is a lot of extra work (or maybe in a case like this or FEAR 3, the games are so old / unlikely to make a lot of extra money to the point where it's not worth digging back into the code to port it). There aren't many incentives to release on GOG (hardly any money to make here compared to Steam combined with the extra work of supporting another platform), so GOG doesn't have much leverage to get already-wealthy publishers to do their "bidding".

Frankly, I understand people who like multiplayer buying elsewhere because, imo, GOG really isn't the store for multiplayer, unfortunately. If GOG goes bankrupt, at least we'll hopefully have our installers backed up. :) (although there's the "My Rewards" controversy for CP2077, can't back that up it seems)
