blotunga: I use gogrepo, and sometimes run verify. Unfortunately GOG provides md5 only for the installers, not for the extras.
Yep, I know about that one. But that only works with gog games, which is quite a small fraction of the whole. And doesn’t it use its own folder structures? That’s kind of what I mean by things not doing it the way I want.

Yes, only for GOG. Tbh, I stopped buying games from anywhere else.

Darvond: This honestly seems like too much effort for my tastes. If you're going that far, why not use something like KODI and let the software figure it out for you?

I have a folder on my external drive called "GOG Games". That's the extend of my organization.
Well, I tried that kodi over the last couple of days, just briefly. Struggle with it to be honest. Interface seems clunky, perhaps has been developed with remote in mind? Couldn’t find much in the way of metadata options, or import /export. Does seem to play most file types. No real organisational options from what I can tell.
Shame, but I will stick with my folder setup I think, and maybe pot player+musicbee+vlc.

In terms of software, is there any player that can combine pot player, musicbee, and vlc? Is can play movies, music, can organise video and music, and can convert and extract audio. Not really used vlc much, just to rip out audio so not sure on its capabilities. Pot player plays everything, but not organising. Musicbee does organise and plays most things. Any other suggestions?

Edit, I found this: https://www.mediamonkey.com/
Will give that a go and see.

We’ll bin mediamonkey. Seemed ok to start with, but wouldn’t play any movies I had without paying for gold. Also wouldn’t find tags from net. So still the market for an all in one, just doesn’t seem to exist in a usable form.

I find Kodi pretty great for my HTPC (Nvidia Shield) with a remote control (and Emby as a database).
Hard Drives are connected to the Shield and I organise folders and files on my desktop via network access. Emby downloads all metadata automatically.

On my desktop PC I use MusicBee for playback, Mp3Tag for tagging, Exact Audio Copy for ripping.
VLC for video, but I only watch movies/series on the HTPC.

There might be an all-in-one program, but good luck finding one where each function is as good as the best separate programs. ;-)

Mine is much more basic than most.

I have a (full) Maxtor 500Gb USB drive and a 2TB Maxtor USB drive. They each have a folder "GoGInstallers" which has a folder for each game inside that.

Whenever I download a new game, update or patch I copy it from "Downloads" to the Maxtor after running it. I then delete it from downloads to save C space.

I have an indexed A5 address book where I note the latest version installed.

Simple, but then I only have just under 200 games, not the thousands that some do.
If you have lots of unsorted MIDI files on your hard drive, there's of course this:

Aww, what a shame, that is using a 32pin connector, and I have a 64pin connector...
