MysteryK: Look at what Valve is doing with its loyal fanbase, LOL.
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/DenuvoGames/discussions/0/4403925145432353415/?tscn=1611003949 All games that rely on Steamworks will have Denuvo, be ready...
I would like for everybody to note the fact that both Denuvo Anti-Tamper (DRM) as well as Denuvo Anti-Cheat (self explanatory, tho what's not so obvious is that it uses VERY low level kernel driver, basically rootkit-like software) belong to 3rd party company outside of control of Valve.
What you linked clearly says "Denuvo AC gets Steamworks integration" and not vice versa.
So it means that company responsible for Denuvo AC for SOME REASON decided to include some form of Steamworks integration in their predatory software.
So it's NOT VALVE doing "something to it's userbase". It's "3rd party company trying to rip off legitimate customers some more".
Also, I have read (
https://irdeto.com/news/denuvo-anti-cheat-now-available-on-steamworks/ ) official (not that "repost on 3rd party website" link in OP) Irdeto statement and it's shaky ground at best.
As a person somewhat involved in gamedev myself as well as a person who knows how to interpret BS PR I was cringing a lot when reading it.
It's written in such a clever misleading way that it could easily get completely misunderstood by people who were not specificly researching Denuvo inside and out for an extended period of time.
First of all:
they refer everywhere in that statement to Denuvo Anti-Tamper when making their point how much they allegedly "protect" while making a marketing PR stand to potential (developer) customers. It's utter BS, but phrased so cleverly that people who don't know the entire history of Denuvo could mistake Denuvo Anti-Tamper "milions of protected" for "Denuvo Anti-Cheat already protects that much" which would be a complete lie.
Second of all:
any info what they even mean by "integration with Steamworks" is nowhere to be found in this statement.
And since Valve has not updated their developer documentation nor made any announcement in that regards it doesn't seem like any form of "integration" is coming from Valve themselves.
What I am assuming is happening is that Irdeto created Steamworks plugin that blends with it, but you would have to get to Irdeto to even acquire it.
In no way on earth Valve would let:
1.3rd party mess with their core API (that would basically make Valve unable to have their own development pacing and independent codebase of Steamworks)
2.Let 3rd party enslave *entire* Valve userbase
And by the way, Valve, no matter how you look at it, is pretty Linux friendly, they contribute to some significant Linux-gaming related projects.
And Denuvo ANTI-CHEAT was proven to NOT WORK on Wine (tested by many people when Doom Eternal got "temporary" update with it in it).
So I don't see how possibly Valve would ever WANT this kind of "integration" to be included with EVERY Steamworks-enabled game on their platform.
Punchline is:
do your research before talking and stop mindlessly spreading misinformation.
