I like Star Wars since I watched Return of the Jedi when I was 4 or 5 years old. I also absolutely despised TFA when I watched it, long before hate for Disney began, because I considered it went against established lore of the SW and spits in its face. (That doesn't mean I can't tear it apart for other things).

100% agree with what your saying here StingingVelvet. Because you know what, these films could have been 100% pure 'femi-nazi' propaganda AND been good (as in fun to watch) films IF they had coherent scripts and good directing and edititng.

I would have hated them instead for being that femi-nazi propaganda film instead of Star Wars films, but as they currently stand, both the prequels AND the Disney films are just badly made films, they fail in many of the aspects that a good film requires to make it good, in purely technical non-political metrics.

Now part of that might well be down to the agenda-politics in Disney itself, or from Kennedy herself, but if you can't (Lucas with the prequels and Disney with New Star Wars) get the basics right on what makes good films, it does not really matter as much as some people seem keen to make out. In other words the problems with the prequels and Disney Star Wars is a fundemental technical film-making problem, more than any political issue.

Aliens is the perfect example. A very feminist movie that has the gung-ho marine guys turn out to be idiots and the woman with motherly instincts to save a child ends up getting the job done when the men can't. Does anyone complain about Aliens? No, they don't, because it's a well made film.

Poe learning a lesson from strong female leaders in Last Jedi isn't a problem. It's how Johnsone executed it that was the problem. Namely it was mostly nonsensical why he'd be ignored and left in the dark, and the execution was boring and part of a great problem of the movie being a slow motion chase over 24 hours or so.

Since you focus on film-making aspect, and I skipped TLJ and RotS (as well as spin-offs) which one would you say is the weakest from that perspective? I found TFA to be mediocre at best, but as I understand RotS is the weakest one by far. TLJ is controversial one, because from the reviews of friends and critics I heard its actually good in its film-making skill (even if the plot is complete fucking mess).
