Does anyone know if this would work in play on linux?

Gold on Debian with 2.15, while the more recent version is Silver...
Platinum on Ubuntu 16.04 w/ 1.9.15

So it's a mixed bag
Of course it should be noted that both of those versions of Wine are ancient. The current version is 3.6 with fresh new reintroduced staging!
Yeah, but POL uses old wine, right?

Actually, it's 3.7 both mainline & staging.

The problem is that those ratings are for the original retail release of the game. We don't yet know the depth and breadth of GOG's modifications to get it to run on modern versions of Windows, so unless someone has tried out the GOG release it's difficult to say how GOG's changes affect WINE compatibility.

Eh, you're right. Fedora has a bit of a pacing with upstream packages, but it isn't the malarky where you wait 6 months for it to arrive in the post.
I've found the best way is just to try running it via Wine unless you still need to buy the game.
