Instead of endlessly complaining on here, this is a good opportunity for us to send a clear message to squeenix by doing their 2018 survey :

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SQUARECRO

Interestingly, this year GOG is a selectionnable option among retailer. Beware though, later in the survey, it appears under Third party retailer.

If, for once, Squeenix is willing to listen, then send them your word loud and clear, goggers !

gOg is a third party retailer,
A headup, it's a long survey.
Interesting, now tell everybody on the whole planet and let them force everyone they know and their grandma to vote for GOG.

Time to send Square a message they can't ignore but unfortunately i don't expect gamers today to vote what's best for them aka DRM free by jumping on in large numbers.

I have a moral dilemma now. Or I don't know if it is moral or whatever, but I just mean I don't want to end up in hell or anything.

On the 4th or so page it asks which platforms you use. At first I selected (among other things) both GOG.com and Steam (Steam usage at the moment is exclusively for Team Fortress 2, but I am sure I will play some of my other Steam games at some point too).

Anyway, I'm tempted to drop Steam away from that survey just to give a tiny bump to GOG... but in a way I feel bad then because I would be lying. This is so awkward, either choice feels wrong in some way.

I guess I will leave Steam there so that I can at least sleep at night. I don't want to look my kids in the eyes when they ask "Dad, did you lie in the Square Enix survey?!?".

EDIT: Do they ask later in the survey which platform you prefer or use the most? That would save my soul, win-win.

EDIT2: YES!!!! YES YES YES! Right in the next page!!! Woohoo! Soul saved!

I hope so, even though I highly doubt my responses pleased them (I have zero experience with their games and do not see any indications of this changing in the future).

amok: gOg is a third party retailer,
I think he meant this:

"26. Approximately how many games have you purchased in the last 12 months from the following platforms?"

There Steam has its own entry, while GOG is listed under the "third-party retailer" selection, along with Humble Store, GreenManGaming, Direct2Drive etc.

I presume in this context they meant "third-party retailers" as places who mainly e.g. sell codes to other systems (like Green Man Gaming selling Steam keys), in which case GOG doesn't really belong there as GOG sells only keys/games to its own service.

If they meant services which sell other publishers' games (too), then Steam should be in the "third-party retailer" section as well. Both Steam and GOG sell also some of their "own" games (ie. the publisher is Valve, or in GOG's case CDPR).

Anyway, there are other pages where people can single out their preference to a certain store, if so inclined.

It is a lengthy survey, so beware! I voiced my desire for more Linux support with particular focus on the Japanese games that Square Enix makes as we already have Deus Ex and Tomb Raider. I requested that the company should release its titles on GOG as well.

which is not correct yes, as Steam is a third party retailer as well. When you have somebody between the producer and the buyer (first and second party) they are the third party.

Steam is first party for all valve games, and gOg is first party for all CD Red games - but they are third party for all other games.

edit:
they also forgot to add Big Fish client : (

Really? Even their GOG games, like the Tomb Raider games, Thief games, Hitman games, Legacy of Kain games, Deus Ex games, etc.?

Do you use Galaxy?
I'm not a Galaxy user, so I have no reason to tick off 'GOG.com' and instead simply chose 'PC (excluding Steam)'.

I guess the main issue(?) was that e.g. Steam had its own selection, while GOG was just grouped together with "the other sites". Ie. you can't specifically say that you buy mostly from GOG.com, but "from those other sites (which mainly seem to mean services which are mainly Steam key sellers)".

Anyway, no fret, there are many other pages where one can mention their like (or dislike) of e.g. GOG.com or DRM.

A bit too many questions(45), but I did make it to the end.
i think this thread should be stickied for the duration of the survey's life.
