PromZA: Both Doom 3 games are available on Steam so not a licensing issue.

StingingVelvet: Might be that GOG want them to free extras with BFG Edition and Bethesda want them to be separate, like on Steam.
If that's the case, I think many, including myself, would be fine with having oriD3 + RoE separate from BFG here, for the $8 price tag on Steam. I assumed Bethesda wanted to just keep pushing BFG Ed. on us (though it has been years, so why not let us have the original already). Heck I'd be okay with $9.99 if that'd help :p

I'd be fine with it too, but I could see GOG not wanting to start selling different versions separately when they don't do that for Bioshock, the Infinity Engine games, etc. I'm just guessing though, who knows the real reason.

I assume bundling of the IE games was to prevent Beamdog/Hasbro from forcing them down (to eliminate competition with the new versions), and I think the Bioschock originals are bundled with the remasters on Steam too.

I'm not sure GOG would want to miss out on the income, as the nearly 6.5k+ wishes (not to mention other non-BFG wishes) suggests to me a release here could be reasonably profitable/worthwhile for GOG (and I don't see too many people getting mad about the original not being bundled with BFG, I think many more want to have the option to purchase it here).

But in any case I'm just speculating too.

RottenRotz: Probably just the terminator series.Hexen and Heretic are on Steam for quite a while now,and Prey is owned by 2K games which are present here i believe

takezodunmer2005: No, unfortunately prey didn't make it here yet, as they've yet to remove the denuvo infection, so until they do; it will not make it over here!
I'm talking about 2006 Prey. The original.I doubt denuvo was a thing back then.

They're just over half the price together anyway of the BFG edition and I'm sure they're on sale regularly. Still don't know what the difference is between the two.

It's a pretty massive difference, the BFG edition is a retooled one focused on consoles. The lighting was changed a lot, made brighter, there are more pickups, the interface is different and designed for a pad, the quicksave pauses the game and a bunch of other little things. If you're a PC gamer the original is widely considered better, though the BFG edition has one big positive in that it runs above 60fps.

Thanks for that. The argument seems to be centred more around preservationists and purests from what I heard. Where most of the detractions are based around the BFG edition not preserving the essence of the original. But then the original also had its own detractors complaining over the lack of realism that in an entire military base there's not a single means to fasten a torch to a gun like any person would do in real life.

It seems to me like both editions have elements that would appeal to different crowds rather than a single one being better. For me it's more around the fact of whether or not one edition is missing any content as opposed to the other. I'm also perplexed as to why the BFG would be double the price.

To me the lighting kills the BFG edition. Doom 3 was designed to be dark, so when you pump up the lighting it just makes the environments look weird and the textures look terrible. There's a mod for the flashlight in the original, if you want that without the massive overall lighting change. The menus and quicksaves are more annoying little quibbles.

As for the price, I'd assume just because it's newer and contains some added levels in a separate mini-campaign. Also it includes Doom and Doom 2.

Too expensive. Make the same price policy again like 1-2 years ago.

You can get BFG lighting very close to doom 3 original with RBdoom3 or Classic RBdoom 3 sourceports
Plus with Classic RBDoom 3 you can play BFG with the originals flashlight or weapon.
And the person making Classic RBDoom 3 has a mod for the original ammo amount in BFG.
Still no mod for doom 3 original health

btw, just a few days ago Civvie 11 released his "Pro Doom 3" video, which isn't super informative (somewhat tho) but pretty entertaining. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NorcX8Xp7uw

What a lovely suprise!
It makes me think that you might do the same with Skyrim (SE?) at some time.
Made my day.
Thursday release : Skyrim ?

That would cause a website slowdown . :p
