Randalator: As I already asked before in this very thread: Why is it only affecting zero reppers then?
avatar
Pheace: Maybe because the bulk of GOG users doesn't use the forum unless they have a problem?
Uh, that doesn't make sense.

I'm not saying "why are there so many zero reppers affected", I'm saying "why are there only zero reppers affected". Your interjection would only make sense if we had many zero reppers and comparatively only a few high reppers affected. But in reality we haven't had any account of a high rep user hijacked, even though following the "GOG screwed up big time" theory, we should see complaints by hijacked high reppers as well.

MaximumBunny: Yet here noobs are getting hijacked mysteriously even from boxed versions of The Witcher 3. snip
Do you have link?

AFAIR it sounded more linke NVIDIA related!

But please proof me wrong ;)

Did you read the OP of this thread? :p

"Somebody stole my accout yesterday. After I installed Witcher 3 (box edition) and I used GOG Galaxy :( "

Yes, but most of the time it showed they got the key via NVIDIA. (or other sources)... hence my let´s say it this way distrust ;)

I did use Galaxy in alpha as well as beta.... I didn´t run into problems.... I even sniffed my own connection and wasn´t able to read my own credentials, despite knowing them ;)
EDIT
wait

OK:

IF it was not a key for NVIDIA that would indicated a problem with GOG, but he didn´t specify. Yes under normal circumstances it would mean GOG, BUT I haven´t heard of a GOG key being sold this way. I only heard of like NVIDIA keys being sold like that.....

OP can you confirm?

50% of GOG users could be 'hacked' (assuming that even happened) and it's still easily possible you'll see no high reppers affected. Relatively speaking it's too small a group to discount something like the above based solely on the notion that no high reppers were seemingly affected.

That said, I'm skeptical about hijacking cases normally, though GOG does appear to have had some longstanding security flaws which were highlighted on the forum a couple of times I think.
Things that make you go... hrmm......

micktiegs_8: It has to be something to do with Galaxy usage.
There must be a vulnerability in Galaxy that is easily exploited, and when someone logs in there info is stolen.

My friend has Witcher 3 but he hasn't used Galaxy at all, only the GOG downloader. No problems yet.
avatar
mike_cesara: Not necessarily. Using Galaxy since very first alpha and no one stole my account with Tyrian 2000 on it, yet.. ; )

avatar
F4LL0UT: I wonder if a single account has been stolen which did not have Witcher 3 registered to it. I don't see how TW3 may be the cause of this but the overlap is remarkable.
avatar
mike_cesara: I've been thinking about this same. Could be a problem with nvidia way of redeeming The Witcher or using VPN in some cases..
Or people just having lousy passwords or sharing them with other accounts.

Crack a guys Facebook password, you might end up getting his password to his email, GOG, bank, luggage, etc.

sometimes just 'password' is enough.

Which is why I use 'password1'.

some sites require longer ones... like 'password123' people should be educated on how to secure their ass word.

Randalator: So why is it that no GOG regulars have had their account stolen yet? There's 1.000.000+ people using Galaxy. If it was a Galaxy vulnerability, it wouldn't be just a few zero reppers, it would be fucking everyone.
My gosh, Randalator I'm just throwing out a theory. No need to jump down my throat and attack me, someone who decides to say something on the matter. While you're at it, attack every other fucking person who adds to this discussion.

Okay, now I am seriously confused. Where did I attack you? There is not a single word directed at you as a person and not even a mean word aimed at your theory.

It was those one million plus poisoned barbs that popped out of your full body suit and that thinly veiled "go ahead and touch me" attitude. J/K. :)

However, you're right, there are people who don't have their accounts hacked because they make sure they use secure passwords and don't give them out to others'. (...and that would be cheating.)
