Strange Brigade

Thanks, I'll definitely try that. I have some vague recollection of Deadfall, maybe a demo? Don't know. But I somehow completely missed Strange Brigade's existence.

Played that one, and loved it. However, the abysmal reviews scared me away from the sequel.

I was about to mention those two, heh. But they're not on GOG, and I can't really imagine that Breja would like them.

Because they're bad or because I have bad taste? ;)

I can get Strange Brigade at least for PS4. Though it seems to be focused on co-op, I'll have to try and get some idea if it makes any sense for single player only.

andysheets1975: Someone did that Indiana Jones-themed Doom mod recently, called Venturous. I haven't tried it yet but it's gotten good reviews.
That looks great! Thanks for bringing it up, I don't really follow mods, so I'd likely never know about it.

andysheets1975: Edit: Oh, and H. Rider Haggard's stories. King Solomon's Mines was already mentioned but She has also been adapted for movies several times, to varying degrees of success.
I really didn't like She much (the book, that is). I liked King Solomon's Mines, and even more so Eric Brighteyes, so it's not that I dislike Haggard's as an author. But She was just kind of tedious for me. It's a short book and it still took me forever, and by the end I didn't even care much what happens. So I don't think I'll ever feel inclined to watch the movies.

Neither, more because I think you're not that easy to please and they're not quite top tier games or in genres that I imagine you'd enjoy a lot. ;) Of course, I might be wrong.

I've only played both for a bit, but from what I recall, Deadfall Adventures is a linear shooter with partially bad checkpoint placement and maybe also a bit buggy. Strange Brigade is more of a multiplayer co-op game which doesn't seem to have that much story and is more about fighting hordes of enemies in a team. I would love to try it with others, but in single player there's not that much to hold one's interest for long.

I played through single player. It's ok (although it would probably be much more fun with others and the later levels were geared toward that), but the end is kind of ridiculous alone. You can beat it (I did), but it feels like "cheesing" the boss... and doing the same hide-and-seek routine a bit too many times for my taste. Still, I enjoyed the game... especially for a $6 pick-up.

I sometimes enjoy games that aren't that great if they have something I like (like a setting) AND if they aren't frustrating. I don't mind linear shooters from time to time for example, thought a bad checkpoint system might frustrate the hell out of me. It's often a pet peeve of mine.

More or less what I thought. Eventually I'll probably give it a go for the setting alone, provided I can get it dirt cheap.

I was "forced" to watch Dial of Destiny at the cinema and I expected the worst, but I actually enjoyed it enough.

The movie wasn't on par with the old trilogy and the ending was rushed, but it still had various fun moments (expecially the beginning).
I wish they employed Short Round's actor again as the sidekick, tho.. the criminal sociopathic girl wasn't too compelling.

IMO it was better than Indy4.. that movie was boring and a bit alien to the franchise (wink), compared to this.

I agree, and I'm not even a fan of Short Round in Temple. But even though he was a bit annoying as a kid, I'd love to see the character back as a grown up following in Indy's footsteps. It would probably have boosted the movie at least a little, seeing how the actor just got an Oscar the year before.

I can't argue with many of the negative points raised in those reviews, as my personal experience hasn't been much better. Despite the lack of coherence and, in part, unexplained story jumps, pale characters, and some ridiculous, unrealistic scenes, I feel inclined to say that it deserves a chance. You won't miss out if you decide not to because other members have made excellent suggestions, more worthy of your time.
How about Spelunky? I heard you like roguelike games...

Yeah, Spelunky is actually one of the reason I like them so much.

LegoDnD: Rotten Tomatoes are proven and confessed liars who fix the scores as dictated by Disney especially.
And reviewers have been caught getting paid $50 for a positive review... Throw out several thousand dollars and instantly it's 'movie of the year', even with empty theaters....
There were these TV series back in the eighties called Bring 'em back Alive and later Tales of the Gold Monkey which had a strong Indy influence.

As for movies there is Welcome to the Jungle with Dwayne Johnson which has a bit of an indy vibe and I thought Peter Jackson's King Kong was also a good option.

For games instead of the Tomb Raider games maybe play Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light which is an isometric more action focused game and there is also Marlow Briggs though I have yet to play that one.

edit:

Also check out High Road to China, which is not superfantasical but still a great around the world trip movie.

If you don't mind roguelikes with turn-based strategies and a pulp-y adventure feel, you might want to try Pathways.
https://www.gog.com/en/game/pathway

It's not perfect (I like the turn-based battles more than the strategic maps), but it has a good atmosphere and it's a lot of fun in small doses. It can also be fun to go through and unlock new characters, etc.

Only one of the starting characters is an Indiana Jones type, so the game starts to feel less like an Indy homage and more a general pulp adventure homage as you progress.
No one mentioned Rick Dangerous yet, right?

The original version was for Amiga, still as good and as frustrating as ever.

Someone ported the Switch version to PC, there is also a port of the Switch version to Amiga AGA.

also take a look at Infinitrap and Infinitrap Rehamstered.
