You do know Hitler KILLED people right ?

No one here is advocating for death and destruction of anyone.

Regardless, you are free to throw these words around like "bigoted", "hitler", "nazi" etc to make yourself happy.

Just a heads up - I don't mind my threads being derailed or downvoted (though talking about the movie in question is always appreciated), but if this devolves any further into another one of those pointless, vitriolic pseudo political flamewars I will simply ask for the thread to be closed.

Disney has Marvel and Star Wars. Marvel is doing real good in terms of popularity and Star Wars is on the decline (a little bit, see box office results).
Did it happen that they got lucky and let the right people work on adapting comic books characters on screen but not for what seemed the most profitable movie brand at the time of their purchase ? Quite funny that most directors of Marvel movies are not very well-known by general audience contrary to the Star Wars ones.

As for Ranger Solo : The Lone Ranger, I only see it as a way to keep selling toys with a new face even though the character died two films ago.
I can't find anything exciting about Star Wars anymore so even though I was never the biggest fan as a kid, I liked them enough to get some videogames with the name on it. I've outgrown the franchise, and Star Wars getting stuck in a past that refuses to die (ironic since we have no one alive left from the original trio in the future films), cannot offer me anything of value.

Maybe we should get some kids to ask about how they feel about Star Wars but I think that Marvel is what they prefer.
Sorry Breja, I spat a little too much on Star Wars but if that's any consolation, Obi-Wan remains my favorite character

Nothing to be sorry about, it's a fair opinion. I mean, it's a pity there's nothing exciting about Star Wars to you at all, I think it kinda sucks to lose something like that, but I get it. With franchises like that there's always a jumping on point, and often, for one reason or another, a jumping off point.

That said, I don't think Marvel is "prefered" over Star Wars, or at least it's too soon to make a judgement like that after one flop. I just think it was a mistake to try and make Star Wars work like marvel with a movie every year. Marvel is based on comics that come out in endless monthly installments, it's tailor made to just go on and on. Star Wars needs to feel special, to feel big, be an event, be unique. Solo is a pretty by the numbers heist movie with rather small stakes and scope released less than six months after the last Star Wars movie. In that sense, although I enjoyed it and I'm glad we got it, it's an anthitesis of what Star Wars should be.
I just had a thought. Since Han meeting the artist formerly known as Darth Maul makes no sense in continuity as already mentioned, what if that cameo isn't teasing a sequel (which is unlikely to happen anyway) but that one thing the fans (supposedly) always wanted to see... Darth Vader vs Maul. I could see that happening. Vader is arguably the most iconic character in the franchise, fans were enthusiastic about his part in Rogue One and unlike Solo there would be no jarring recasting involved since James Earl Jones and Ray Park can reprise their roles.

I'm not saying I neccesairly want it to happen, but it would make sense. More so than Boba Fett honestly.

Vader would kick Maul's ass without breaking a sweat.

The movie would be two minutes long.

Reminds me of the LotR prequel remake (Unexpected journey) where all the mages are meeting together and there's hints of the LotR and things that are brewing, which were totally unnecessary and not part of the original Hobbit story (as far as i know/remember).

Are they just shoving in more cameos? Limited time for them to be under contract? Add more time to justify it being 3 movies?

It doesn't make sense to the story that was self-contained, so much they bloated the one movie into 3 movies rather than leaving it more or less untouched.

Vader's overrated :P And this would be some... I don't know, I'm a bit confused about the timeline but probably abot 10 years before Ep IV, so he would be barely half way between Vader proper and the whiny asshat from the prequels.

True
In those first three movies the only fights he won were against an old man and an enraged child.

And the old man let him win.
