Elmofongo: So I'm downloading Lord of the Rings Online because yolo I guess and to see Middle Earth in a full 3D world like WOW and Morrowind (this game is one big seamless world right? No Loading Screens between Zones like Everquest?)
So question:
Is the free to play fair I can see alot of the content?
Is this game very easy like are the dungeons and raids easy?
Lvl Cap?
i'm probably not the /best/ person to ask about this, but...:
you can see more-or-less up to level 20 or so, but...!
the game gives you "free to play" points as you complete deeds. deeds can be somewhat mindbogglingly boring "kill y mobs to complete x deed." most deeds have two levels, level 1, which is "reasonably sane" [kill 30 of something, get ten turbine points] - and then level 2, which can be a little crazy [kill 60 - sometimes more] of something, get ten turbine points.
if you have the stomach for it and you want to go completely free, it's possible: set up your character you're going to play, then use your other slot for a guy you're going to repeatedly delete. grind deeds in the areas you can reach by doing as many of them as you can, then delete the character and do those deeds again with a new character.
the content is split into "zones" and other things. zones are - naturally - bits of land that you can buy. a good thing about lotro free to play: if you buy that zone, it's yours forever even if you upgrade to having a subscription and then downgrade again to free to play.
i think the free to play is "fair" if you have a dumptruck of time to spend grinding deeds or if you treat it as a kind of "downtime" from your job: [ie: i'm going to finish two deeds, or whatever, as a de-stressor.]
i only ever did one dungeon and i did it at launch. back then, everyone was starting out, so it was a little tricky. they've since [as far as i understand it] de-emphasized raiding quite a lot. dungeons are still in the game, but i'm not sure they're as popular as they once were. you'd have to ask a higher level lotro fan than me. i only ever got to level 20 or so.
since "issue fourteen" [that's a content update in lotro-speak], the cap has been and will remain level 100 for the foreseeable future. as a free to play player, you're effectively hobbled to the level of whatever content you've bought. [so, if you've bought stuff for 30-40, you /might/ make it to level 43 or 44 if you continually just grind on creatures, but diminishing returns would kick in at that point.]
if you do play lotro, enjoy :)
