Navagon: There was that old theory that every site that achieves a certain level of popularity myspaces. Which I suppose would be better described as facebooks now. Either way, like you say, once there are too many* people that sense of community becomes lost. Especially if that influx is quite rapid. That is something we've noticed over the years, sure.
And that saw a sharp acceleration as of late. TW3 ? Nvidia codes ? Galaxy ? the cause is not that important.

Sorry, I don't get the reference. I've seen it mentioned before though. Did GOG try and sell something as 'good news' that really wasn't?

No, not really. The result is still the same and I don't think that it's going to do anything but get worse.

awalterj: 1.) Don't voice an opinion about politics
2.) Don't voice an opinion about religion
3.) Stay away from the GamerGate vs SJW thread
4.) Don't create friend finding threads or "need help with Teh Wintchner 3" threads in the general forums

By categorically avoiding threads of this nature, one will generally avoid feeling annoyed and have no problems. There are plenty of awesome threads that get far too little attention (...)
Very true, all of it. There are still plenty of good threads to enjoy... yet, sometimes it happens that, while posting in a perfectly calm thread concerning a normal gaming topic, someone just reply with an equivalent of "your opinion is shit" without motivating, out of the blue.
The better way to deal with those kind of people would be to outright ignore them, yet I can see why anyone would be upset; just imagine if a random passer by on the street suddenly addresses you shouting a "fuck you" for no apparent reason. It's hard to let them be, and even if I reply as politely as I can there's a limit to everything.
In the last few months, I received several acid replies before even having the chance to start a civil discussion!
Besides, even "sensible" matters like politics and religion shouldn't fall in that pit we all know from some threads...

I guess people just don't understand that "digital life" IS "real life", as long as you are interacting with a human being, and the same rules that apply when you can physically receive a punch in the face should apply here, too.

Breja: However, with every non-asshole leaving the forum that day is probably getting closer. Don't leave! Don't let them overrun the forum!
You are right. If every decent user left, things could be nothing but worse. Want a better forum? make a better forum! :)

At some point in time, they begun starting some posts with "Good News", and one coould observe that quite a few members of the community had diverging views about the "good" part of the message ;-)

So, just genuine entropy then... But sure the result is the same...

The announcement of regional pricing for Age of Wonders 3, Divinity: Original Sin, and the Witcher 3 began with "Good News".
Bye if I don't see you around anymore, I haven't been here much myself the last year or so.
Sorry to see you go Fenixp, it won't be the same without you. Thanks for the memories and drop in and say hello from time to time. All the best.

We have lost lots of great forum members but the show must go on......even with a new cast.
I know I am new but I am feeling quite sad and moved by your post :(:(

Probably you'll ignore it, still please don't go. I know from experience that every bad reaction from some @$$hole post is part of the inner *problem* within you. After all they have far more issues being *problematic* to community.
You are too smart to let your injured self esteem open a road to ostracism ;))
Cheer up!

You could say that.

Edit:
And that thread then gave birth to this thread.

Ah shit, yeah, I remember that thread now. The first one that is. I'm just glad the attempt to misdirect fell so utterly flat. Not that it changed anything. But it might make them think twice about trying to gift wrap a turd and sell it to us in future. If this was Steam then that would have been a very different picture in the comments section.

NoxTM: I have a single, solitary fish left; all the others died in the tank yonks ago.
Yonks? Damn, thats a long time ago. I mean, just one yonk ago we still had computers made of bronze and hand made straw pixels.

The board has certainly changed over the past couple of months, and it seems the trolls are winning as more and more of the lovely people I've come to care about wave bye-bye to the GOG forums once and for all. It's sad.

Now I've not been around much, myself, lately, but that has a lot to do with me having a new job... and spending up to 3 hours a day commuting ^_^;

Not in for the game, but thank you for the giveaway ^__^
