Leucius: By the way, I use snes9x - is there one that's better?
If your CPU can handle it, bsnes (part of higan) is more accurate. It does, however, use a lot of CPU power (and hence more electricity) than snes9x. (So, if using a laptop, it might eat more battery.) Also, note that the emulator can only make use of one CPU core.

Most modern x86 computers can handle bsnes.

Note that there are a few programs, like mednafen and bizhawk (I believe), that use the bsnes emulator core, and as a result, have similar characteristics with respect to accuracy and CPU usage.

Garrison72: I use Znes. Pretty easy to set up.

Darvond: Don't use ZSNES. The last release was over 10 years ago.

At least 9X gets the occasional update.
Just downloaded. Thanks.

Certain Super Mario World romhacks will not work in accurate emulators (and will not work on real hardware, either). If you want to play them, for some reason, you may need to use ZSNES or an older version of snes9x.

(Will these romhacks work on a hacked SNES Classic?)
Thanks for your responses.

Someone said the SNES Classic has an extra 300 megs of storage, so I would think so.

That's not the issue. I am wondering whether the emulator functions in a manner that allows these particular romhacks (which don't work on real hardware or accurate emulatore) to work.

Generally, the romhacks likely to have this issue are older romhacks with custom music. The particular inaccuracy involves the emulation of the sound chip (apparently something to do with an echo buffer), so romhacks without custom music don't have this issue. Modern romhacks generally don't have this issue because one of the biggest mario hack sites made a rule that hacks have to be able to run on real hardware or accurate emulators.

There are also a few fan translations that were affected by this issue, Lennus 2 being one of them. (Some translation patches, including Lennus 2's, received updates to fix this issue.)

Edit: Changed first sentence.

Got to pick one up at Eb games and lost a class in the morning but eh it was worth it cause now those things are sold old and getting a hold of one will be a pain in the ass due to scalpers and I don't trust nintendo with a 10 foot pole.
I thought I might find one at my local Super Walmart last friday. I got up early and got there after 8am. All sold out. On to my 2nd stop. I managed to get one after waiting an hour and half? in line at my local gamestop which opened at 10am. I was 5th in line of 10 for 15 SNES classic.

I'm pleased with my SNES. It came with 2 controllers and kinda neat classic looking poster with instructions on back of it. Looking at the box will make you feel like a kid again. At least it did for me.
I'm not too familiar with suspend points, seems the same as save states. There's a thread on Nintendo Reddit saying that suspend points can wipe out your internal saves.

I'm waiting with hopeful wariness for NES classic next year.

tinyE: Got curious, thought maybe I was being unfair, so I looked into it, and my interest was peaked....until.

$80 for 21 games, many of which were mediocre when they came out?

Yeah....I don't think so. :P
So imagine that here the distributor raised the price so it's for around 135 euro and some shops selling it for as much as 210 euro... amazing. That's about snes mini for me. :P

21 installed games? Good. But not good enough. I don't need Kirby games, Star Fox, Super Mario World (again) and others.
I would prefer if one could individualize the console: 21 freely choosable games out of a pool of xyz games. That would be worth the price of around 100 €, or maybe more and be a real unique piece of home entertainment and precious for the owner.
I guess I'll pass and play on all the emus of games I wasn't able to play as a child and teenager. And from time to time I check my original SNES and the cartridges if they're still working. Will never^ sell any of these.

michaschm: [...]
Also it comes with two official controllers which will be usable on a PC with an adapter.
Though these two original and unused controllers could be the best reason to buy it if they are usable with the original SNES.

Got it. All I know about emulation is how to run the games, and thereby play them. I don't know anything about the hardware of the SNES Classic other than it's the same chipset as the NES Mini, from what I was told. It's hardware based emulation, vs software based, like AtGames' products are. I know this doesn't really help you, but that's the best I could do.

Also: Hi! Been too long, my friend!

KingofGnG: Nintendo couldn't possibly do the same thing the Analogue NT Mini did with hardware emulation if they wanted to sell their little toy at a popular price.
Doesn't matter what they could or couldn't do, just what they did.
NES classic. Decent concept. Good price. Good games. Fake release to generate demand and marketing hype.
SNES. Release a higher priced console with less games for a higher price. Not buying into it. Will pass on this one.
I noticed that it is apparently in stock, somewhere near me, so I placed an order. I'm now waiting for the confirmation, should the listing actually be correct. Hopefully the site is up to date. 100€

Well, it would appear whatever they have, reproduces sound less accurately than even 9X, so who knows.

As an aside, if you have a really beefy machine, you could give bsnes/higian a try. Basically cycle accurate emulation to a T.
