GameRager: I don't see how women in games being sexy relates to one being picked on irl/online
HappyPunkPotato: It's that women often seem to be portrayed as having no value other than being sexy and tend to get "accused" of being ugly and fat if they don't agree with men in real life. Not trying to prove anything, just saying how society has made me feel.
GameRager: Also why point out the women who wait around waiting to be saved and NOT all the women in gaming who kick butt and save the day like Lara Croft/Bayonetta/etc?
HappyPunkPotato: I tried to use the words "often" and "usually" to show that I know there are examples of more interesting female characters. How come you only mentioned the women who do kick butt and none of the ones who don't? How many male characters are there who are only there for women to ogle?
GameRager: I'm not trying to be mean but you seem to be discounting all the stuff done to objectify men as not as bad as what is done to women just to prop up your point to yourself.
HappyPunkPotato: You're not coming across as mean and I generally agree with a lot of what you've said but I'm not saying objectifying men is less bad, just that's it's less frequent and a more recent phenomenon.
1. Women should(imo) embrace any sexiness they have as one of their good qualities/assets(though not their only one of course) and not shirk away from it/from it being portrayed as an asset in media. Just my two cents.
I agree no one should accuse others of being ugly/fat if they disagree with someone, though.
(Also again I get where you're coming from. I have suffered many such 'slings and arrows' from people online, and it sucks, but I try my best to ignore such)
2. They are the ones who come to mind to me from what I am familiar with/have played/etc. The woman(forget her name) from the Blackwell series is also good and doesn't kick butt physically, as another example.
As for male eye candy: The Gears of War men(they are mostly there for women to ogle and also gay men, and for straight men to want to be more like/self insert as).
Irl eye candy: Chippendales/etc dancers.
3. I was just trying to show that i'm not trying to be mean as some others have taken offense with the way I come across and I want to mitigate that and clarify/apologize as much as possible/needed.
Imo it's(male objectification) at about the same frequency(women doing it slightly less)......just that it's less brought up by the PC society we live in as women are considered more marginalized than men(even in first world countries), Also it's likely been around for years(marital aids are basically objectifying men and have been around since the dawn of time, as one example).
