this isnt about games like crazy taxi which you can play for 5 10 30 minutes or for infinity
or bust a move or any of thos e puzzle games

but games with a beginning a middle or an ending

but who are so short you cant believe that was all

yesterday i dusted off my half way through save of front mission evolved and 3 hours later i was done
all in all the game took me 6 and a half hours spread over 6 months
it might be longer with out me ignoring the cut scenes but that really is bloody short

even the lego games are longer then that ( 9 to 10 hours on average for the story mode )

the only other game i can remember that was this damn short was star fox 64 \lylat wars
the first time i played it it was 90 minutes
each subsequent play through was 30 min
Once I got a game for Christmas. It was probably around 1990. The game was the C64 version of The Official Father Christmas game. It took me about 30 minutes to complete the first time. There was no second time.
Samorost: less than 5 minutes!

Play it for free here:

(It's more of a teaser demo for Samorost 2 really)
I usually like shorter games.

To The Moon... was probably the shortest I've played in quite a while. But was still an hour too long. It's a good story, but not a good game. The game parts were rather boring.

I was surprised by how fast you get through Din's Curse's worlds. It was refreshing for me b/c I like short games. So you finish a world in an hour or two and then you start a new, harder world with your character. It keeps things fresh and fun and challenging.

A few other games that ended before I thought they would are Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction and Alpha Protocol. But they ended at just the right times. I hate when a game has a 6 hour story but they drag it on for 60 hours (most RPGs). I just finished Demonicon and I loved it. The game moved. It had more story than pretty much any other RPG I've ever played of its length (14ish hours). Not the best story or production value, but I loved it through and through. Yesterday today and tomorrow too.
4PM took me all of ~45 minutes to explore fully. Got it in a Groupees bundle. It was pretty fun while it lasted. Worth the 12.5 cents I paid for it.
There's a freebie called "The Old Tree" on Steam (or you can play it on the developers' site) which lasts about 15 minutes. It's a very pleasant atmospheric trip with a couple of easy puzzles, in which you help a little squid/apple tyke on a short journey. I found it incredibly pleasant and interesting, for a 15-minute experience. I mean, obviously it's not the most involving narrative or anything, but it's a great example of a bite-sized game experience done well.

Calling card for the dev studio, I gather.

I've been looking forward to this one - didn't realize it was that brief. So it'll probably take me only, what, three hours or so. 8)

I can beat the dos version of golden axe in under 20 minutes probably, with the dwarf of course. That said, I would have to admit that the dos version is probably the easier version of the game. Especially the Deathadder fight. In some of the other versions he has an annoying ground lightning attack that's absent in the dos version.
croixleur sigma is another short one 20 min or less
and mitsurugi kamui hikae i finished in 45 minutes

It's a student project rather than a full-fledged game, but it was quite nice for what it was. I really enjoyed it.
Unmechanical seemed really short. I normally drag games out. I play an hour at a time then stop for the day. I did that with Unmechanical and it took me two days. And a good chunk of that time was spent figuring out how to remap the controls.
DrugLord usually only takes 10 - 15 minutes.

Journey. I was sad that it ended so fast.
Passage.
Marble Madness for the NES takes maybe 5 minutes or so to complete.

But here's an unconventional answer: Golden Sun for the GBA. It was the only game I ever played where I fought and defeated the final boss without realizing it. The game ended without resolving a bunch of plot stuff.
