As you probably know I've finished my backlog recently. And this enormous achievement changed my way of thinking. Before I was buying many bundles and games that somewhat interested me. But in the end it caused me to play many bad or barely average games. And since I do have a large collection of games (with boxed games close to 1000) and a lot of them are great games indeed I don't really need to spend my gaming time on bad titles. I don't mind replaying games, many strategy games (especially 4X) are made for that purpose so instead of struggling through mediocre games I can enjoy my time with real gems. And that's what I'm doing at the moment. And thus I'm not really buying new games nowadays. I may pick one or two titles from time to time if I know the game is good (demos are great) but in general I think I have enough games to keep me entertained for years so why should I bother?

I used to think I collect some games, because I have a backlog (which is a little more than 25% of all titles I own) and not enough time to play all of the ones I really want. Plus I wanted to have different kinds of games - at least 1 in every genre. I even though I have a lot of games (after so many bundles and -75% sales :)), until here came this thread where people posted the number of games they own on GOG and on Steam and I realized how little do I own and I was ashamed to post my numbers there :)

I have a good amount of games. Not as many as a lot of people but more than some (200+ here and <50 on steam.) I have only gotten two games from Steam since I discovered GOG: one of them was a gift of Papers, Please (thanks adaliabooks!), and the other was Dishonored. Along with Papers, Please, the only other game I own on steam that is available on GOG is Deus Ex (first game I got from steam because I had never played it.)

I only get games that I definitely want to play someday, with certainty, whenever that may be. I don't buy stuff on a whim or games I'm not certain about my interest in. Most of the stuff I get are older games that I was never able to get when they were released, so I know I want them already, some of course are games that I bought way back when and want a digital/working copy of, anything else I research for a while to be sure. I don't worry too much about when I'll get to them because I will eventually and the backlog isn't so big that I've started thinking *will I get to this before I die of old age?*, yet. I do the same thing with books and movies. I have many many many books (I used to work in a used bookstore and regularly would get paid in books of my choice - I have a lot) and movies (DLed) that I have not read or watched but want to and will eventually.

Daikatana is something I have always wanted to play (I was much into computers/games in the late 90s moreso than any other time in life, so I followed the hype and disappointment of it all, but never played it.)

Games of shame (OMG you've never played THAT?!) that I own:

#1 game of shame is Thief (and 2 and 3). I've never played it other than a demo when it came out and watched my GF play the first mission when we bought it here, which was really enjoyable, but time hasn't permitted getting back to it. I know, I know.

Others:

The "Kain" games. I have all but Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2, and haven't played a single second of any of them. I really want to. Some day!

It was better when I didn't start shopping digitally. Back then, I could browse the retail store almost never picking anything up "new". I always waited until the game was on sale. Of course, I never expected some to skyrocket when they stopped being sold--but that's the risk of waiting too long. The only other games I'd get were those that were free after rebate.

The other constraint I had was physical space, as I kept all the boxes. So, now that PC games are much less due to digital release and/or bundles, AND because they no longer take up any shelf space, it has become very challenging.

I actually started collecting digitally just before the beginning of 2014. There were several factors for this. One being that 2014 was a tough year living in a "limbo" away from home (it's been 2.25 years now). I didn't really have much to do but plan for the days I'd be back home. So, I stepped into the world of digital PC distributors never expecting that the floodgates would open.

The good thing about this is it forced me to take an inventory of what I have to prevent getting duplicates which happened a couple times even in the retail days.

I also stay with the discount rule. I'm not someone who needs to get the latest new thing now. Besides I have plenty to keep me busy (that is if I even have time to play these days.)

Do you have few games in your collection or maybe it's a four digit number?
I'm not even close to 500 with Steam, GOG and retail all combined. For now it's like this: Steam > GOG > retail games.
It's been a while since I got anything directly from Steam (the last few were retail with a Steam key). Recently I started getting games only from GOG. Right now I'm waiting for a few more titles to go on sale, here on GOG. And for a few new titles from Telltale Games, like The Wolf Among Us, to join the GOG catalog.

Are you ashamed that some games in your collection are not receiving your attention?
No, more like sad. I have a few games I got some time ago, but I had very little time this year, and until July, to play anything, so I mostly stopped playing. GTA V was the exception, I did it in a weekend (I got to almost 80% status). But when July comes, I'm gonna have a great summer with some awesome games, I didn't even play The Witcher 3 yet...why? Because this is not a weekend game, it needs a lot more time than GTA V. At least when I start The Witcher 3, it will be patched and most of the DLC will be out.

Are you on some kind of special game-collecting quest?
No, I just enjoy playing games. Also, I enjoy playing local co-op games with friends. Fighting, racing, puzzle, anything.
A few titles that come to mind: Overlord, Magicka, Mortal Kombat, Shank, Trine, , Flatout, Jamestown, Street Fighter, Skullgirls, Grid and these are just a few of the games I enjoyed for hours with friends.

Do you splash the cash for the "out of the mint" games or you prefer to buy cheap good oldies?
As I said, recently I started getting into GOG a lot. Deus Ex, System Shock 2 and many other titles like that. And let's not forget the new indie games (well, new to GOG), like This War of Mine, Hand of Fate and Transistor.

So yeah, this is what I like, playing games and having fun while doing so.

500+ on Steam
Close to 400 on GOG (but I might go past that during the sale). But I promised myself that after the summer sale is over I won't buy anything until the next big sale.

For my game collecting, I'm pretty greedy...but only for sales. I'll only get a game I'm geniunely interested in playing at the time, but sometimes I start a game, don't get into it, and put it on the back burner. Or I don't start it at all. I can go without buying games for months, but as soon as I see a sale, I consider it. I think I have more that 200 unplayed. 0.0 I feel like it'll never be that cheap again (although of course, it will).

Most of my retail games have wandered off to Goodwill or the dustbin at this point. I probably have only 8-10 left, and whether or not they run on my current machine is an open question.

Just eyeballing it since I'm too lazy to count, but I'd guess I have about 40 games on Steam, and about 60 on gog. The gog tally, however, includes the 12 or so free games one gets just for signing up, and only a few of which I'd actually play.

On top of that I think I have about 6 codes I've purchased on gog that I haven't decided whether I'm keeping for myself or going to use in GAs down the road.

While there are a lot more games I would like to play (Xulima, why do you tease me so!), both time and money are limiting factors.

I have currently 41 ps2 games. I rather buy them second-hand in good condition than new.
On steam i buy only when there are on sale.

Wow, I wonder how many games some people have. I have only around 40 games. Maybe I only have few games, because in the past I was selling games that I don't need anymore. Today that is not so easy. You cannot sell a game that is only digital.

I try to get only games, that I think I will enjoy while playing. Most time if I start playing and realise then that it is not so good as I expected, I finish a playtrough. Maybe they become more interesting after some playtime. There were only few games that annoys me so much, that I immediately stop playing them. Otherwise there were also only few games that I wanted to keep after finishingt. Some of them were Deus Ex or the Blizzard RTS games.

Got like 388 games in total. Mostly on steam (277) from bundles, giveaways and big sales. Sometime ago I used to add every game from bundle to my steam library just for the achievement sake. Well... I've never played most of them and probably never will, but y'know - badge is badge.
