Regardless, if a game depicts underage girls and/or rape it's distasteful however you want to spin it, you can try sugarcoat that bullshit all you want but it's still bullshit.

Outside of that go for it, but put a fucking filter on it (GOG you fucking twerps), if PornHub was coming up everytime i opened my browser i'd be blocking that shit too, even if i do go there from time to time, and i certainly wouldn't throw it in front of someone elses face.

There is nothing wrong with having adult games on a European platform as long as they are quality. Most of you complaining never even tried any of them. We Europeans have always appreciated art and culture, plenty of priceless European classic art and literature is full of nudity and sexual themes.

So my point is, just because a VN has a few sex scenes, that doesn't mean it isn't quality storytelling. That would be the same as claiming The Witcher games sucks just because they have a few sex scenes.

I didn't read everything in this thread, but just going by people like OP I think a lot of people have not experience great visual novels. But I will chime in as someone who consume these kind of anime-style games.

Many of people who play these games, myself included, do hate the influx of cheap smut and hentai games on Steam as well. Good visual novels and eroge do not find much of a footing on Steam, in fact. When one thinks of hentai or porn on Steam, maybe Huniepop comes to mind, puzzle with some dialogues, choices, and sex. Or maybe Nekopara, a visual novel completely about cat girls and fetishizing them. Let's go all-age, and you might've heard about the popular Doki Doki Literature Club a few years ago that hits mainstream, a meta-breaking game that left a huge impact and surprises.

What if I also tell you none of these are the pinnacle of eroge and visual novels?

I assume from an outsider perspective, people just look at the flow of these kinds of games and think there's no value in them and that they're the same. Steam allows a lot of these low-effort games and that's what you usually seen posted around the communities, with their meme-y and absurd titles. The Japanese eroge scene has the same kind of thing, games that are just written to fap called nukige. Porn scenes after porn scenes, not much value in characters nor plot except fulfilling a fetish.

But like any community, the bottom tier entries should not represent the rest of its potential. Game is simply a medium, so is visual novel, anime, comics, novels, etc. Just like there are awesome games like the Witcher, there also exists FIFA ##. A lot of the Japanese porn games (eroge) are often high quality and have very well written plot. Song of Saya is a dark and horror Lovecraftian story that make you question the choices in life. Venus Blood series and Kamidori has some of the most complex and in-depth RPG system and units, which Sseth did videos on as well. Dead End Aegis has been compared to Watts' novel Blindsight. I'm not even touching some of the all-age visual novels like Steins;Gate or Umineko either.

Not all visual novels are about choosing a heroince and dating/fucking them, nor are they just about perverted, vile fetishes. If you really research into this kind of field, you would find a lot of good games as well, whether you dig RPG playstyle or want to read a well-written tale of tragedy to heroic feats. When I play one of these games, I don't have my dick in my hand to fap. In my opinion, porn in a good game is as much fappable as porn in a Hollywood movie would be. They're great additions to flesh out the whole story and set up, not really something I would consume to satisfy sexual urges.

Have all the interesting books been made into films? No. Here is the same situation.

And what is "boring and lame" for you is quite interesting for another. How many times do I need to repeat the same thing so that people like you finally realize that all people are different and their tastes are also different? Someone plays hundreds of hours in a Farming Simulator, someone considers Dwarf Fortress a masterpiece, someone sticks out for half a day in "hidden objects" or "three-in-a-row". All these games are not suitable for everyone, but this does not make them bad.

Like.. art has levels and some cheap art could have a "specific" "ambience" (:D) but anime is just.... aghrrr..... I think it's more of a money and audience thing but I will not take the right away from other people to call it art if they can't do better. If they must learn from it and grow, it has a purpose even if as a temporary stop, but a permanent place for a specific kind of people. Maybe? Art is everywhere, it's true.. in a.. way... :D
Like.. I get there are various people of various understanding.. so whatever. Lets people have a spot to go, but lets do it in the way to not bring everything down with it, please.

It's hard to respect anime if it doesn't respect itself.. in a way. My opinion.

But porn anime with underaged stuff? That is really on the edge of the edge and we should treat it as such and be "happy" it's even legal at all...

And you may end up bringing anime down by pushing it instead.

Yep , these anime girls are clearly underaged.
While they are not real girls they still red flags to watch out for those who like these stuff , like those school shooters. I've just watched a document vid about one of them , and red flags were everywhere. Sadly nobody did anything about it probably just wanted to "let people do what they like" mantra , result multiple homicide :(

My good dude, Muramasa is a 50 hours long game. It only has like around 5 sex scenes, which is less than an hour of the total content. So calling it a porn game is a straight out false statement. If that makes it a porn game, then Witcher, GTA and Mass Effect would also be porn games.
