tinyE: She could play a table lamp and I'd go see it!
avatar
Siegor: So you could turn her on?
Hell yes. It's only fair, since she turns me on all the time! :-)
I'm so glad I don't care. About Ghost in the Shell I mean (or anything japanese in origin really). I'm so tired of the endless debating of race and gender of movie characters. Too many female characters! Too many male characters! X should not be black! Y should not be white! Fuck's sake I'm tired of it. I swear it didn't used to be like this. Can't we just go back to the 80's, watch and discuss awesome movies without any of this crap?

Rusty_Gunn: ScarJo could probably handle trying to do a live action version of the manga or the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series versions IMHO
That reminds me, there was that episode when Kusanagi rescues a teenage boy and they for whatever reason sleep in the same hotel room. He, at one point asks whether she is equipped for intercourse and she responds with "I don't know, would you like to find out?", at which point he realises she weighs a tonne due to being mostly metal and would probably crush him so he replies "nah".

Mr.Caine: Funny because her acting skills and range are exactly that of a table lamp.
avatar
Maxvorstadt: Well, that is at least more acting skills than Daniel Craig has!
What do you mean? Daniel does a great job of playing an unemotional bland stiff person.

True, a lamp wouldn't really able to act as a person, though I imagine it could be quite bright at times.

yeah, I remember that one, used some pretty neat item placement for that scene IMHO

this discussion has got me thinking. If androids/gynoids based on "western" women was made available in a future where robots & cyborgs are common would that sell well in Asian markets. I'm curious because the major's body is typically referred as having an "off the shelf" look to it.

TLDR: would Asian men like to own a ScarjoBot?

Well, Chinese men certainly would.

Thanks, I didn't know a possible prototype for Kusanagi's bodytype actually existed.

DaCostaBR: Remember people, movies like For a Fistful of Dollars were pretty good, and Clint Eastwood's character sure as hell wasn't called Sanjuro.
Scarlett Johansson ain't no Clint Eastwood, friend.

She's very pretty, but that's about it. I really can't stand her.

The guy who spent 18 months building it really needs to get laid... preferably with an actual woman.

When tinyE sees it.. XD

I don't mind at all, she's a fine actress. I don't see why every anime character has to be asian. Infact every anime character actually looks European to me anyway with the big eyes and whatnot.

The movies itself is going to have to be absolutely excellent to even be close to Ghost in the Shell though.

They did try a Japanese actress at first, but she sounded too funny so they couldn't use that "actless".

Joking aside: meh. I can fully understand a big time Hollywood movie wanting to use a big name Hollywood actress for it, even if her "race" is not the correct one. Then again easy for me to say as I have no deep feelings towards Ghost in the Shell. I think I've seen some anime movie about it, but I remember hardly anything about it.
