Tyrrhia: What do you mean by “the other camp”?

fables22: Ah, just the people threatening me over PMs. You know. The usual.
Fair enough. I thought you meant everything that isn’t liberal.

HereForTheBeer: Bans: the Capital Punishment of forum behavior modification. And just as effective.
I don't know about you, but I've never heard of a (real life) person who committed another crime after suffering Capital Punishment. :P

fables22: ... while I do realise some people might think forum moderation is unfair, I do honestly think it's needed.
I think quite a few people (myself included) thought that forum moderation was long, long overdue.

Edit: It is also nice to see that the changes described by fables22 are actually being received warmly. I actually expected to see 100+ pages with people defending to the hilt their apparently God-given right to be as big of an asshat as humanly possible.

I've seen it in movies a couple of times.

thought you were dead :D

And right this second, for political reasons that I'll keep out of a gaming forum, I'm feeling really really sick to my stomach.

As a deterrent for everyone else. "Toe the line or this is what happens!" Yeah, that always works.

But the point is most of us don't need a deterrent, we're decent people who don't behave like idiots.

And the ones who can't manage that get banned, making the forum a nicer place for everyone.

*shrug* I'm not a huge fan of executing someone as a deterrent for other people, in part because of the reason you state here.

I view Capital Punishment as a way of permanently eliminating a problem; by extension, make sure you've got the right person and that the crime actually warrants it (such as first degree murder). As you said, banning is sort of the forum equivalent.

Which is exactly the point of CP. We can revisit six months later and see if the "new and improved" rules make a difference.

Anyway, their private forum, they can institute whatever policies they want. But I'll note that at least a few of the people giving praise for this measure are some of the ones who crank up the gas and stir the pot.

Yes, and I have told them countless times (ask them yourself if you don't believe me) that if takes kicking me to clean the place up, because I am a troll there is no hiding it, then I would accept that.

I've felt really sick since the election.

How has this become about Capital Punishment? This is not like capital punishment, this is like "sir, you disturbing the other customers, I'm going to have to ask you to leave the premises." Only it's even less severe than that, as they can still use the store.

Some people really like to make everything dramatic :P
