I avoid the serious satanic stuff as well, bands like Gorgoroth scare the hell out of me(pun intended). Dimmu Borgir is fairly decent, though. I don't mind dark stuff, as long as it's mostly fantasy and fiction.

Some more of my past, my first introduction to black metal:

I bought a used Xbox 360 and the previous owner still had his music on it. I was almost disgusted to see Cradle of Filth on there, even though I never listened to them. I went to delete it when a song caught my attention: Cthulhu Dawn. Being a huge Lovecraft fan, I at least had to give it chance.
Although I don't think much of Cradle of Filth now, that was the most intense thing I had ever heard at the time, and I loved it. Since then I stated giving more extreme metal my attention, and have come to love some of the most extreme and experimental stuff.

Having said all that, here is one satanic band that actually know how to write good music without being creepy.

Gorgoroth will scare me if I see them 10 meters away from me in a dark night, I've seen some DB videos and I didn't like the music or the videos, I don't mind it to as long as it's about real life tragedy.

I started from Agalloch or Empyrium, they are more of a Folk and Doom bands, so yeah I like it more when it's mixed with other genres.
